Poem: "The Widow-Keeper's Lullaby"

Dec 10, 2012 14:16

This poem came out of the July 2012 Torn World Muse Fusion.  It was inspired by a prompt from haunted_blood.  It has been sponsored by ellenmillion.  This poem belongs to the Torn World science fantasy shared world project.  For reference, warsailors hunt the sea monsters that make water travel hazardous in Torn World.  This can be fatal, so the Warsailing Guild provides death benefits including widow-keepers who are available to take care of a surviving spouse/children.

The Widow-Keeper's Lullaby

I will sing you songs of death
Keep you safe to your last breath

Though your mate is dead and gone
We are here to carry on

Let sea monsters be forewarned
Fresh hope springs from what was mourned

You and I will do our part
New life grows beneath your heart

I will sing you songs of life
Honored lost warsailor's wife
