Poem: "The Crackerjack Princess"

Jan 05, 2012 20:22

This poem came out of the January 3, 2012 Poetry Fishbowl.  It was inspired by a prompt from wyld_dandelyon and sponsored by janetmiles.

The Crackerjack Princess

There's a game that only
the smart girls get to play.

It's hidden under a layer of action-packed heroes,
but if you can figure out the code,
it will unroll a whole world of adventure under your feet.

There's a game that only
the crackerjack hackers ever see,
a game that no boy would go looking for
because the games are already made for them.

If you know the code,
the princess will tear off her pink dress
and take up a quest in her silver armor

while a gentleman in fancy pantaloons
screams for help from a castle window.
