 Okay, so it's like this.

Some time ago, me and lil_1337  sent out a box to Kevin And Ursula Eat Cheap, which is a weekly podcast produced by two fantastic and creative people, naturally named Kevin and Ursula (imagine that.)  Said box contained a miscellaneous assortment of southwestern foodstuffs, chosen for its amusement value, peculiarity, interesting ( Read more... )

I applaud you for following through. Bravo. You are definitely braver than I am :P

That photo of you post-Menudo isn't downloading properly, all I get is your forehead. Which is sad because I kinda want to see what facial expression you were pulling :D Although I can kinda imagine the horror.....

Yeh, I love their podcasts. I have to restrain myself from staying up late on Sundays (I'm in the UK) to download it and listen to it rightthissecondnow :)

Thanks for the link! You do look suitably horrified.

And I'm glad you like the icon! My friend made it for me. It's not a hamster, though, it's a dormouse (old university nickname!)

Oh, the little sleepers! ^__^ I used to live in Germany, and whenever they'd reap the fields we'd see tons of those. Cute little things; I love how tightly they build their nests.

Heh. The tripe doesn't bother me, neither does the calves' feet... no, what has ME shaking in the corner is the GREEN CHILIES! I don't do spicy food, as Wren can tell you. But I salute you nonetheless!

Actually, green chiles are mild and rather sweet; they're some of the very few I can eat, and I love 'em in green corn tamales. As for calve's feet, well... I'm guessing they're just meat, more or less. And yeah, I know, so's tripe; but I've eaten beef-tongue and liver and even pancreas, and none of those tasted quite that nasty or had that texture.

I can't eat black pepper. ANY type of chili gives me issues. Never actually TRIED tripe, so it might gross me out, but the idea of it doesn't, at least.

Homemade is much better than canned. Tripe has to be done a certain way as others have said to make it nummy. I would say try it at a resturant somewhere in south tucson or even Joe's.

Umm... possibly not, in my case. Part of my aversion is textural, and even if the taste could be vamped up so that I'd like it, it's really hard to conquer texture issues. But maybe someday I might try it yet again; I'm stupidly curious that way (it's why I kept trying Borscht when I hate beets, and finally found some I like. Unfortunately the restaurant that made it is in the former East Germany, if it still exists at all.)

I actually really like tripe and menudo, but I only eat it when it has been made right. The idea of eating it from a can gives me the eeby-jeebys.

I love the face!

That face is being made right after I swallowed the bite. It is not a happy face, no... more like a WhatHaveIDone face. It would've been a TotallyChickeningOut face if I hadn't promised.

I suspect my Partner In Crime would eat menudo without a qualm, given it had nothing in it harmful to her diabetes.

I, on the other hand, draw the line at haggis. Admittedly, AFTER haggis, not before, but I definitely draw the line.
