No one knows of a voluntary way to return to their respective worlds. As for the wings, it is advised that you keep them intact, as removal of both can and will result in death.

The pain should subside in a day. Even the removal of one wing, however, will weaken you greatly.

Supposedly, they are to ensure that our bodies adapt to the environment and translate the speeches of animals. As for why it's wings . . . I have no certain answer.

I suggest reading the guide when you have the chance. Do you know of it?
