Lieutenant. This is Luceti, not Italy.

[William counts the information off on his fingers:] Know I'm in some bloody Fiddler's Green, know the wings won't come off, and all sorts of other useless things. What I need to know is how I get home.

[Fiddler's Green. Huh.]

No one knows of a voluntary way to return to their respective worlds. As for the wings, it is advised that you keep them intact, as removal of both can and will result in death.

Duly noted, sir. They hurt like the Devil's own torment; I haven't presumed to touch 'em yet.

The pain should subside in a day. Even the removal of one wing, however, will weaken you greatly.

Now, is there anything specific that you'd like answered?

D'you know why these wings are so damned important?

Supposedly, they are to ensure that our bodies adapt to the environment and translate the speeches of animals. As for why it's wings . . . I have no certain answer.

I suggest reading the guide when you have the chance. Do you know of it?

...Wait, what about the animals?

I read it. Not sure how much stuck.

You'll find that the animals speak if you take the time to listen.

[ . . . ]

Perhaps you should read it again part by part later.

...we'll see, sir.

I mean to. It doesn't make a whit of sense, though, you can't argue.

[You'll see, Lieutenant. You'll see.]

Initially. Luceti has the unfortunate tendency to defy what we believe is logical.

You can bloody well say that again. Don't know how you've been living here, I don't.

It isn't as though we have any other choice. This world demands adaptation.
