What's going on here?

I pulled over
to watch the sun set
and it was beautiful.

It was beautiful, and
it made me think of everything sad
that had ever happened to me

and all I could do
was cry.

Then on the way home
I hit a dog
and I waited for the tears to come

but instead

I found myself laughing
because right before he dove under my tires
I swear
he flashed me a suicidal grin.
