We got back a few days ago and are still catching up on things work-wise and home-wise. However, I was eager to get to our photos as I was pretty happy with a number of them. I'll scatter them through this roundup of what happened. ( Read more... )
It was pretty unexpected and the late hour for the whole business wasn't great, but it worked out ok. I'm still just baffled as to why so many hotels are so packed. My guess is that it's because so many of the area hotels are expensive and these are among the most reasonable in the Denver area.
Sorry to hear that your hotel was overbooked. I've never heard of overbooking hotels before, could it be that a lot of people are going to Colorado for the medical marijuana? Apparently the economy is booming.
I didn't watch either game, I went out with friends a couple of nights in a row and was too tired to stay up. I've just seen the Netherlands vs Costa Rica game. I won't talk about it just in case you haven't heard.
I just really wish FIFA would do something about the reffing. I know it is discussed ad nauseum but it's just so dis- heartening.
Germany has seven players out. That's going to be some change, or maybe not given that Germany is such a strong team.
I find it difficult to believe that giving a two minute water break to each team at the same time would mean either side would have an unfair advantage or break up the rhythm of the game that much.
I found the second half of Argentina v Belgium to be a bore. The early 1st half goal was a good one and there was a lot of struggle, especially surrounding Messi, but on the whole I didn't find it one of the more interesting games.
Costa Rica v. Netherlands was a definite "something could happen at any moment" kind of game. I was really hoping Costa Rica could pull out the win -- not just because they're a CONCACAF team, but because no one seemed to believe they could do it. So close :( Also, I haven't been impressed with the Dutch "do anything" strategy, such as the foul on the CR goalie in the last extra time.
The other thing is that I felt Costa Rica could have a good chance against Argentina had they gone through, so it would have been amazing to see them reach the finals.
