The good news is you have plenty of time to make up your mind about law. Some of the people I've known whom have went on to law school studied different subjects for the undergraduate degree, and I've heard that law schools prefer to start with a clean slate rather than undo things you picked up earlier, though you'll have to research that for yourself. It seems that some undergraduate courses would help you get a better picture of what you'd be getting into.
Whatever route you take, good luck. Who knows? Maybe somewhere along the line your goal of having your name in print for helping people will just turn into the goal of helping people.
