Cordelia and i had escaped the boardroom of the blonde. I don't know where Harmony gets the idea that she is all up with power girl but let her at it. Not like the others will follow her. Please, she's a soulless fluff. Think Paris Hilton without the money and you have Harmony rolled up in a blanket. Oh add fangs ( Read more... )

I shrugged and glanced over at him as the phone beeped.

"We were friends, but then you know Xander and I .. and then my whole social status took a nosedive. I guess it was for the better. Kind of hard to be popular when you were broke." I said, smiling.

Getting up from the couch, I paused.

"Anya. I knew her. Back in high school." I frowned. "She works here now?"

Shaking my head, I glanced over at him. "We have to give Connor the tour? Are you sure you want too?" I raised my brows at him. "I mean. You're going to be okay with it, correct?"

I nodded at her. Oh yes Anya is make in the game it seems. Although I didn't really know her well. I don't think we've actually had a real conversation ever.

"So you know everyone and I know only a few. What do you think of them?"

Standing up I straightened my jacket and looked at her.

"So do I look okay? I look to corporate don't I? Shit he's going to think I am a jerk. What if he hates me Cordelia?"

I looked out the window waiting for him to step off the elevator.

"Everyone is fine. Really. With the exception of a few people here and there. Speaking of people, that brings me to my next point. I need an office."

I crossed my arms across my chest and sighed.

"He's not going think you're a jerk. Will you please stop acting so paranoid? You're making me paranoid. And I'm not a pleasant person then."

I walked over to him and wrapped my arms around his waist. "You'll be fine, he won't think you're a jerk, he'll work for us and the world will be happy and bright. Okay?" I asked, smiling.

I stepped off of the elevator and saw that the ultra cool Mr. Angel guy was getting a hug from that super beautiful Cordelia.

I could tell that I was going to like it here already.

I smiled and walked over to them, awkwardly. I went to a big school, which could be intimidating, but this place was just scary large.

I walked over to them, not knowing whether to extend my hand for a handshake, or to just stand there looking stupid like I currently was.

"Hello. I'm here for the job. Is it still open?"

Mr. Angel was a little creepy. That was the sense I was getting. He had the whole cool thing working for him, but when he talked about my mother, that was a little scary.

Now, we were in an elevator. I wondered if this was some game being set up by the basketball players because I had bumped into them, or Celia Wordman, she could have been behind this. I hid one of her books on her and that was after she told me that she liked me, butshe was just too immature, and, her father was a lawyer.

I looked at them both leery. "Frat parties aren't my scene, studying, that is, and yes, Mr. Angel, my mother is a fine looking woman."

It freaked me out just to say it, let alone that I had to say it because my new boss just made the random comment about her.

I smiled at Connor and nodded all the while thinking about what a fool I was. His mother. What a way to get Connor to think I was some kind of freak. Thankfully the elevator ride was short and I could do the tour of the clinic. Passing the first door in I looked away. The memory room. So many things stored in little glass houses. Most of the team had something in there. A memory, brain cells, dream patterns. It would be devastating if that room was opened up.

"That room is locked and secure. No one except for research goes in."

"Including us." I said with a smile to Connor. "It's best to just not ask any questions about it. Hell, I don't even know what's in there."

Angel was so going to blow this. We walked down the hallway and I glanced at Connor. Hm. He was obviously freaked out. Which means I had to quickly think up a lie to overcompensate for Angel's mother comment.

"Don't mind Angel's last few comments." I said, lowering my voice, though Angel could still hear me. Just play along, big guy.

"He's had a cold the past few days and he's been taking that night quill stuff." I said, smiling at Connor. Cause that was sooo believable.

I could see how taking nyquil would make somebody randomly call somebody else's middle aged mom, attractive.

Yeah, I walked around the next day at class, talking about people mother's, when I took nyquil. I wasn't buying that one, but I found this whole secrecy thing to be really cool, and the room that we couldn't go into, even cooler.

I was definitely going in there at some point, although I didn't let this Mr. Angel or Cordelia know that.

"So, are there a lot of rooms like this in here, Mr. Angel?" And please, don't say something about my mother again.....

These two were really busy, but even if I was, I wasn't going to show the worry lines on my face.

This sounded cool, and reporting to Mr. Angel, that would be really cool, especially if I had some interesting information. I was going to be like that guy on HBO who solves all of these cases with forensic information. Can't remember his name but it's really cool, because he's always solving all of these murders.

I didn't know this Harmony, or if they wanted me to go to this meeting, but then Cordelia said she was new, because she was out of the country.

"That's awesome. I've been to Canada before, when I was nine, my parents took us. I would rather have gone to Europe or something, but going anywhere was a good thing, and I went to Mexico too, there was this whole thing where I shouldn't have drank the water but did."

I looked back up because I had my head down when I was talking and they both had odd looks on their faces.

"Yeah, bad water in Mexico. I'm sure that I wasn't listening to my father or something."

Yeah Cordy you've been out of the country for a while. And the reason why is standing in front of us, as clueless as those in that meeting that is being lead by the bimbo of the firm.

"Don't worry, anything Harm screws up will only take a phone call to fix. I do intend on having her demoted to bathroom patrol."

That or taking out all the trash cans. That would give her something to do. Take those cans to the dumpster, the one out back that is in the sun. Girl needs a tan anyway.

It cut through my heart though when he mentioned his father yet again. He loved him. A love he had never really had for me. He tolerated ( ... )

I smiled at Connor and nodded.

"Yeah. I was in .. Paris. Family has a home there, traveled for a while before I ran back into my friend from high school. Angel." I said, shrugging. Well, it was true. We used to have a home outside of Paris, I knew Angel from high school .. just the timeline was wrong.

"Well. You know Harm." I said, grinning at Angel. "I think she'll get off the ego trip soon enough. And I've heard that the water in Mexico can be bad."

Experienced it first hand too. I went to Cancun for spring break one year back when I went to Sunnyhell and yeah, I didn't drink the water. But well, that's another story. Okay.

All we had to do was keep the conversation rolling away from the memories topic and you know, all that. Because if we didn't Angel would brood and Connor would be even more aware of something being up.

"So. We're going to have to get in touch with uh, the guy at the morgue." Okay. Didn't know his name. Oops. "But that should only take a few minutes." I said, smiling at Connor.

"Okay, I can wait. I mean, I want to start like right away, but I can wait."

I thought about what Mr. Angel had said. It sounded kind of funny.

"I know that I might be working in a morgue, but I kinda like things that are funny and I bet meeting this harmony would be funny. She sounds like a real idiot. Does she have two left feet?"

I laughed as I made the joke, and they weren't frowning, but they weren't exactly in hysterics either. I really needed to stop telling jokes. It was making me feel and look like such a dork.
