Write More Crappily, Write Crappily More

There was a time when my blogging was more than a repetition of posts about book goals and problems with blogging. Problems blogging and book goals are all I blog about these days. It's a phase. It's all about book plans because right now I don't know if those plans will happen. My mind is always on making them happen. It's all about problems ( Read more... )

Ha, I didn't realize it had grown into a movement. Unfortunately I haven't really lived up to my plan (not to say that I haven't been writing poorly)... I've hardly picked up the pace, and have really trailed off on my journal even moreso in the last month ( ... )

We are all trying to be crappier. One can achieve a modest amount of crappiness alone. But together, I think we can sink to greater crappiness than we ever could alone.

And yeah, I kept noticing references people were making to your plan to write poorly.

LJ is a mode of procrastination for me. When I was writing more or less full-time, it got more attention from me because it's a fairly instantaneous form of procrastination, with pretty instantaneous feedback. It's a bit like one of those white rats in laboratories, pulling on the right level to get a pellet of food. It's instant human contact.

Right now I'm writing only part-time, and working in a startup business full-time, so my LJ activity is probably ten percent of what it used to be, if that. But LJ is a tabula rasa; the beauty of it is that the experience can be shaped into pretty much whatever you want it to be. You can use it to write, you can use it to socialize, you can use it to post pictures of cats in hilarious predicaments. It molds very nicely around whatever you do with it, and that's why I still like it.

And, by the way: hello. I just noticed you added me. Did you find my journal through mutual friends, or do I know you from school or somesuch?

Hey, Kieran :) I agree with everything you're saying here. It's impressive that you work full time and write part time. How I found you: cobalt999 referred me. I enjoy the slices of life served up in your entries.

Sometimes a scrap of gold will plop out with the rest of my entries, but I don't try too hard with my LJ, never have. I write when I feel like writing.

Like an occassional corn in the poo. That's a metaphor for everything now that I think about it.
