There is still a great deal of damage to the Ambergeldan countryside from the storms a while back. Tom is surprised to discover this as they ride along the road to Litchlea. X does not seem bothered by the cold, or all the riding.

When you have superhuman healing, saddle sores happen to other people. That, and she's a quick study.

Which is why she turns easily in her saddle, shifting to look at both Tom and 494.

"I still do not have a scent trail."

Not that she expected one, exactly. But the behavior of dragons is not something she is familiar with. Maybe it needs to land often.

"That's so weird," says 494, stroking his chin. "I mean, where I come from, dragons always barge through the underbrush rather than fly. It's just the logical way of things. I can't imagine why we couldn't track him normally!"

Hey, all his recon may come from movies, but there's a certain logic to it. There always is.

"If you can't pick up the scent when we're closer to the mountains, I can cast a Locating spell. It might not be as effective here, but it will be better than wandering about the wilderness."
