That wasn't such a bad excursion. I didn't want to be there the entire time, but I didn't suffer too badly either. My companion was both amiable and competent. Who could ask for more from a port?

[warden filter]

Is there a procedure for assigning interim wardens? I'm concerned that one of the new arrivals, Count Vladisaus Dracula, has been threatened ( Read more... )

port: desert island, a polite request, worldtradefed admiral!?!, worried, asking the admiral, wardens only

It's alright - you haven't failed, there's nothing to be sorry for. And Toshiko is fine, by the way.

What did he say?

He said you offered to spar with him and didn't seem to understand what he meant. Not much else. He far more to say about Mlle. Summers.

He was angry. [ Pause. ]

If he loses control, I would rather him attack me instead of anyone else on the Barge, so I offered.

Did he tell you why he was angry?

And... why would it be better if he attacked you?

I have dealt with the one who threatened.

Unless there is another - WHO YOU WILL TELL ME OF.

Who informed you his room was empty of possessions?

I saw his room myself. There is furniture, but it looked like a... hospital or prison, not fitting for his status or comfort.

Aleera, I only want to talk to this person. Not make more threats.

This man, he was your lord, yes?

I did not threaten. There was no need. But this does not seem like his private chambers... Why is he the exception?

He made me what I am.

No, but you might threaten whoever it is. I'm handling it. Trust me, please?

That is what I thought, but I hadn't seen his old chambers. I did ask the Admiral to amend the oversight, if he deigns to listen.

Is he truly no fragment of the man you knew?

{Holmes is torn, between undying champion of love, general apathy toward romance, and dislike of speaking of such matters.}

Does it matter if he is? This is about me, protecting myself. If he wants something from someone, he can damn well ask. [Yes, he actually cursed.] I'm not going to keep making a fool of myself.

{Holmes valiantly attempts to refrain from rolling his eyes.} And should he wish to speak with you?

Then I'll be polite, which is more than he's given almost anyone here.

...Excuse me? [Genuine confusion. She's taken offense to this accusation. It takes her a second to figure out who he means.] Mind telling me exactly what he claims I did?

He says he tried to walk away, but you forced a confrontation and continued to insult him. He left before he lost control of himself. Your first conversation on the network is a matter of public record. If what you said was anything like that, no wonder he hates you.

[Eyebrow raaaaaise.] Wrong.

I ran into him in the hall, on accident. He started to walk away, I told him I was unarmed and I only wanted to talk. Which I did. I wanted to understand him, give him a chance. I know a different version of him back home. Depending on how he responded, I might have even apologized for the way I acted before, but I would have expected him to do the same. Getting screamed insults at? Kinda discourages my being nice.

In retrospect? I shouldn't have bothered.

I guess "insulting him" translates roughly to, not taking the offensive things he has to say, and telling him that killing humans is wrong? I don't care if he hates me. Kinda part of the deal with being the Slayer. But I really think you should re-evaluate your opinion here. He has no remorse for what he's done, and vampires can't without a soul in my world. Telling him that if he hurt people he'd have to deal with me? Not wrong. He came here bloodthirsty and with a massive vampires-are-superior-complex. Letting him know he's not allowed to do whatever ( ... )

It's still a threat, and unless you get assigned as his warden, he won't be dealing with you unless they request it or aren't able to handle him.

I know you're reasonable, but he clearly didn't want to talk to you at all. He was only out exploring the ship at my request, because with so many people at port, it would presumably be quieter. I don't know very much about you, but I don't think he was lying about feeling threatened, even if it wasn't your intent. And it would have been better to let him walk away. He has that much self-control.

I don't know what will happen when he gets assigned, but I'd think taking a few risks to let him know that not all humans are out to get him might be worth it.
