[Seth really needs the ability to write his thoughts. It would go better for everyone.]
I find myself inundated with messages and voices emanating from this machine I was issued, without so much as a means to turn the fucking thing off. I've attempted to destroy it, but such efforts have proven useless.
I'd rather skip the whole fucking venture and keep to direct communication. Surely there is some sort of newspaper wherein people might continually publish their doings to one another?
Or do you mean intelligence? I come from a place where not less than half the residents in the camp are illiterate in the ways of letters and scribblings.
I hope you aren't presuming to be calling me crass, sir. As I have not been upon this boat for more than a day's time, I can't presume upon the ignorance of the inhabitants, though I do gather a vague sense of their attitudes by way of this machine. As it stands, I would prefer to do away with the contraption entirely and have those who would call upon me do so by the knocking of their fists upon my cabin door.
I would not call you that, good monsieur, but I can find certain words to be so. I hope you didn't take that to mean I was criticizing you. I was only trying to speak as one with more experience.
I would wish that too, but it is not to be. I am certain if you throw the device overboard, it will merely return to your cabin.
I cannot guarantee that with all the happenings upon this vessel, that I will always be so careful as to moderate my speech in order not to offend your sensibilities.
I will surely try it, perhaps this very evening. May I communicate the findings to you in person, even in the event that the thing comes back into my possession?
Is every fucking person on this boat compelled to put every last fucking thought on display for the passengers to sort through like so much gossip?

Destroying it would not be wise.
You don't have to pay attention to everything. The device separates things that are directed to you, but skimming the rest is... acceptable.

I fear it is beyond some of our residents' talents to take the time to commit things to writing or read.

[He's apologizing, really.]
Have you tried it? It might be a worthy endeavor.

I have not. I was speculating only.
