I went for the laundry room. I know that probably sounds crazy, but hear me out: Very few linens were kept in the clinic, and we were going to need blankets. "Chocolate," Mace manages. It's something he's never indulged in, having tasted the artificial stuff a few times as a child, and he wonders if they'll have the real thing here. "Chocolate cake."
He can feel himself wanting to slip into the deep calm sleep will bring, but a memory of nothing but black and little pinpricks of light flashes into mind, and he opens his eyes, wincing against the light.
"Chocolate cake with light blue icing," Lexie says, as if confirming the request, catching Shari's gaze and nodding before looking at Mace again. For the time being, there's nothing else that can be done, at least out here, and for that, she's grateful; the clinic may not be far, but he doesn't seem like he'll be awake for much longer. "Alright, Mace. We need to get you inside, do you think you'll be okay if we help you to your feet?"
