Even after days, the effect is amateur, she knows. She knows because she's sung songs by the best songwriters in the business, She has sung Ryu's songs, and she is not dim enough to not get the difference.
"But still," she tells him, "they didn't have to dismiss it off-hand, they could've tried the chords."
"Always wasting time on the wrong things," he tells her, but his tone, it's different, it's...fuzzier around the edges, more blurred, softer. Or maybe that's the static.
"I liked it," she said truthfully, "I wrote a good song."
"Modest," he mutters under his breath, then: "play it if you want."
She had her old guitar in her hand, before she's had the time to register surprise that he asked.
The chords are a mess, she realizes belatedly. She wasn't writing a song with specific music in mind, there's always a song in her head and she'd set her lines to someone else's chords. Badly.She stops playing midway, "that's it

MY BABY CHILDREN. *clings to them* I LOVE how you write Yerim! So straightforward even with herself. And yeah, she's scared she'll push him away but that's not as important as being honest. I LOVE THAT. And I love that it doesn't push him away; even if he's not sure of how to react to it, he doesn't react by running. That means a lot coming from Hyunsoo.
And then the songwriting! And he was going to lie but she's honest first so he doesn't have to!
And he doesn't quite trust yet that she'll keep feeling it, that KILLS me.

I AM SO GLAD YOU LIKED IT. I actually find these fandoms terrifying because omg, I am missing out on so much cultural information. But I did so like Yerim's forthrightness, it was so delightful and refreshing, honestly. And Hyunsoo is basically as ridiculously emotionally inept IRL, as he is good in interviews, guh.

Not who requested it (hah, obviously!) but I looooved this. I love how she's honest when she talks and he's honest with who he is and all the songwriting parts that are super cute and <3333 In general, I love it! This is great :)

I was terrified of writing it and spectacularly messing up characterization and everything, so I'm really glad it worked for you! Yerim's honesty and openness is just one of my favorite things! Thanks :)
this is a gorgeous thing. they're super super lovely and YERIM. yerim the greatest prettiest most perfect. i want to follow her around for the rest of her life.

Thank you! I love how Yerim was honest about her feelings from the first moment on, and I'm guessing that's part of what attracted Hyunsoo to her, since the concept is so foreign to him!
