Had a similar problem with UPS this summer when they were delivering my TV (a heavy 42" flat screen). I missed them by 30 minutes, and I had to explain to them that there's no way I could pick up such a huge item, and because of my teaching schedule I couldn't settle for delivery on another business day.
It took a lot of fuming and complaining on my part for them to realize it would be a lot less laborious to just have the driver return to my house instead of returning to the UPS facility, unloading the huge box, and loading it again for a redelivery attempt I wouldn't have been there for anyway.
Fortunately when I got my TV they delivered it on a Friday, which is the one day I can legitimately stay home and be available for delivery. :D
But yeah, it seems like every time I get something UPS they have this habit of delivering at the exact same time (during which I'm absent) every time, even if I've left a note on my door leaving the specific times I will be home for delivery. >_
Interesting...usually it's FedEx that f's up packages at my house. Or (god forbid) DHL, who are the absolute WORST. Then again, I think last time UPS f'd something up, J complained to his mom, who works for a hub manager at UPS. Maybe our house is registered in their computer as "DO NOT FUCK UP ON PAIN OF DEATH" or something now, because they've been really reliable ever since
( ... )
Huh, clearly I need to make friends with some UPS folks! XD
But yeah, the others aren't much better...my stepdad is currently hating on DHL because they are apparently incapable of locating the building where he works, even when given its correct address and directions on how to get there.
Also, wtf at the doormat thing. Maybe he was just trying to say "welcome" to the thieves who might want to steal it? XD
I've had my share of issues with UPS also. My last job we shared space with another small company, but there were two different phone line, and so two different places to call on the call box downstairs. The problem being was we shared the same number. So there would be 456 Company X and 456 Company Y. Well UPS always seemed to call the other company. (Which half the time they were not there because they were just an older semi-retired couple). Well, then we didn't know UPS called. I even left a note on the call box telling them to call us and not them on day. Well, I ended calling ups on the deliver (because he did this several times in a row) and then when he finally dropped the damn thing off he was really nasty to me because I called.
Then I had to figure out how to drag a OSX mac server up four flights of stairs. Thankfully one of the guys in the building helped me carry it up.
Haha, I actually swear a lot when I'm by myself, especially if I'm getting frustrated. You should have heard me a few weeks ago when I was putting together my TV cart - there was lots of "fucking sonuvabitch piece of shit furniture" muttering. (Of course, when I realized that it wasn't the cart's fault but my own suckiness at reading directions, I found myself feeling guilty and apologizing to the inanimate TV cart. XD)
