For some reason I'm feeling very nostalgic today - not for anything in particular, really, just for about everything. It's kind of a weird feeling, because normally I can put a specific name to nostalgia - like "oh, remember England?" or "oh, I remember that trip to Memphis!" But now it's just kind of a generalized nostalgia for all of my various ( Read more... )

Ahahaha, I actually haven't heard the SP joke. Tell me?

Ugh, that Escapist author sounds like such a high-stepping snob. Just his tone in that article...about how people could not possibly comprehend the level of intellectual discourse at which he is writing...>_>. WTF.

Oh, it's from the episode where the independent film festival comes to South Park (I think it's "Chef's Salty Chocolate Balls"). The other kids ask Cartman to go to the festival with them:

Cartman: Naw dude, independent films are those black and white hippie movies. They're always about gay cowboys eating pudding.

So the other three go to the festival, where they indeed end up watching a film about gay cowboys eating pudding and talking about their relationship. XD

There have actually been a crapload of filler articles written about SP "predicting" Brokeback Mountain - google "south park gay cowboys eating pudding" and you'll find them - but here's one of them.

Ha ha, maybe...though I think you're only overcompensating if he also has Armor of Manliness +3 and the Holy Sword of Testosteroni.

The thing I hate most about this article is that the author treats anyone who is dissenting as arguing about 'semantics' around supposed 'facts.' The problem with evolutionary psychology, and this article in particular, is that it is often based on an oversimplified and erroneous view of human evolution. There exists anthropological evidence of societies with child-rearing duties that are shared equally among men and women, and evidence of the invention of the sling, for the purpose of carrying babies while hunting, is very strong. In order to understand what aspects of our psychology may be evolutionary hold-overs it is first necessary to have an understanding of what our evolutionary history may actually have been like.

P.S. I hate it that when LJ makes a mistake on posting a comment it just erases the comment, like "oh hey, did you actually wanted that posted? Yeah I wasn't able to so I just threw it away, oh well you probably remember it well enough to type it again, right?"

You just summed up what I hated about the original article better than I did, so bravo. :D

And that's why if I'm making a long comment I always copy-and-paste it into Notepad before I try to post it. XD
