Okay, so it's been a week since I completed Valve's Half-Life 2. I thought I'd be able to just put it down after that and shift my focus onto something else. And yet, everyday for the past week, I found myself going back to the game and replaying bits and pieces of it here and there ( Read more... )

I dunno, I can think of other immersive games. The Call of Duty series was pretty immersive, you were in the middle of the action all the time (especially in CoD 4, the opening level has you fleeing a sinking ship and leaping aboard a helicopter to get away. :D). Oblivion is rather immersive (imo), you're part of a living, breathing world that changes over time (yes, scripted and quest-based, but it changes damnit).

I agree that HL2 is not the be-all and end-all, but it's damn nice. I fell in love with the first Half-Life, Valve really knows what they're doing (too bad they had to do the whole Steam bullshit though >.>).

Deus Ex forever. :D d

Actually, that's a very good point you raised there. There's probably like a bajillion games that are that good in being immersive that I've not played that I probably am not the most qualified to pass judgement like that. :3 That opening to CoD 4 sounds crazy. :o d

Speaking of which, I still haven't played the original Half-Life either. o_O There's another one to add to the list. :B
I don't quite see what's so bad about Steam, other than not being able to get a box and manual like all good games should have. But then again, I wasn't using it back in the day when it had those teething problems that I heard so much about. :3

Oh, and Deus Ex. There's another for the list. X_x

I've become a fan of Steam. It works great and saves me from useless discs and boxes.

I haven't gotten to Episode 2 yet but I figure I have a couple years to play it at the rate they're going.

I kind like the boxes, truth be told. It makes the book shelf look more impressive. :3 d

I hear Episode 2 is fairly short, being episodic and all. If anything, at least it won't take you a couple of years to play. :p
