Wow.... just, wow.... I figured that I would watch whatever if was (because it was 20/20 and they are really good at spinning things to make their points) and see their spin. But they really did have two groups of kids dressed like punks doing vandalism. I would have personally been afraid of both groups, because teenagers scare the crap out of me (especially when they are dressed like punks / thugs). But to see how the black kids elicited such a stronger reaction is sad. I wonder if they kept count of the number of people who walked by in both cases. And of the amount of time the kids were out there in both cases. Also, time of day would play some role. It sounds like it's a very small amount of time in both situations, so the experiment would really need to be repeated to get more time in order to be truly meaningful.

I agree with you. While I don't really doubt the conclusions, unfortunately, the whole thing may have been swayed. Time of day and population could make a big difference. And seeing the insanity of 911 calls regarding two men sleeping in a car, it might have been a good idea to put two white guys in a car sleeping and see what happens. Can't be positive it's a race thing, if you don't test it.

I really want to know how long the kids were out there in general. I want to know how many people didn't give a crap regardless of the race, because that's what I see a lot of these days. If it isn't your business, ignore it and maybe it'll go away.

Anyway, even with the unscientific nature of this experiment, a 10:1 difference in response is HUGE. And absolutely uncalled for.

One last quick thing. The whole "in our backyard thing" seems pretty common. People always assume that anything bad that happens must come from outside their safety zone. Otherwise I think most people might go mad.

They should have had 2 white kids sleeping in a car, too see what happened.

Yeah, this was unscientific, but really not inaccurate.

I want to know how many people didn't give a crap regardless of the race, because that's what I see a lot of these days. And I've seen White people eye my oldest nephews differently because they are obviously not White. I've seen them get looked at in a way no one has ever looked at me, because they assume I am White (I'm using the capital "W" to denote culture & ethnicity, not appearance...I might scan as White, but I'm really just white :P ( ... )

It's sad, but not surprising at all. And this experiment mimics what happens in real life all the time. I think most people who don't have to live with the ill effects of racism like to think things are better than this in our country. It's not.

Whatever.
I shouldn't have said anything.
I told Jason about this clip. He is very quickly losing all faith in humanity.
He really thought it wasn't as bad as all that. But since the election, it's been blatant and vicious and it's wearing him down.
It hurts that he's feeling that way, but he needs to know.

Oh, I'm sorry, hon. Yeah, this is some serious bullshit. But he does need to know. It's gotta hurt him, and hurt you to see it. And to know you have to raise your son in this dumbass world.

It HAS gotten more vicious since the election. All these white people who cannot STAND a black man being in a position of such power. Amazing, isn't it? The amount of squawking and carrying on cause it isn't the usual old white dude calling the shots.

this is BULSHIT!''

I would call 911 - regardless of race! Vandalism is Vandalism.

As far as the two male blacks is concerned I would make sure they are breathing just in case there was a medical issue before calling 911. Also it is illegal to sleep in a car in most states - But I would be more concerned with their potential for a medical condition.

Fuck people.!

It is some SERIOUS bullshit. I don't understand how only 1 person called the cops on those white kids. I mean, seriously!?!? And yeah, way to show concern for the kids. Also, wtf, do most criminals take power naps in their cars before going on a crime frenzy?! Obviously they looked like they were going to rob someone to that guy, cause they looked black.

Fuck people, indeed. How am I going to explain this bullshit world to my kid?

The 2 911 calls regarding the suspicious black people in the car was the worst part. It's hard to know for sure regarding the foot traffic if the same people would have called on the white kids who made the later calls (some of them probably would, some probably wouldn't). But there's no getting around that someone chose to call the police regarding the black people "waiting to rob someone" while ignoring the white kids smashing a car.

It's something else, no doubt.

I love how black crooks apparently power nap in their vehicles before fixing to rob some decent white folk. Ugh, just ugh.
