isn't it crazy how stuff like 'grove pointe' and more crap keep getting put up not only on waterfront but further inland or extreme N/S yet JSQ and such remains ghettontoquitefabulous? gotta love progress. says the woman seeing all the trash and boarded up buildings left esp after snow melted.

Hey, I'm a Journal Square native...believe it or not, things used to be even more bordering on the "ghettofabulous!". The fact that they built the State Building where the State Theatre used to be (*sigh* childhood memories) and are tearing down that effing Hotel eyesore to build new housing/retail space is very promising.

Gentrification has it's pluses, but it can also be annoying as hell.

well when you live south of the square, you don't see bupkis. ;)

anyways, my point is they're going at the speed of snail in comparison with most other parts of town, whatever one thinks of it. plus the trash/empty building/etc stuff is still pretty bad. all this funding floating around town and as per usual it only goes to the high-end development areas that don't need it as much. they're still stalmated (if you read thenewjournalsquare.com etc) about the hotel/tear down/etc issue, and have been so for a long time. (sorta like the wtc issue) and they didn't put any useful shops (only a bank, even though the square has plenty of banks already) below the state building! we still don't have a working good cafe or sit-down (as opposed to take-out) restaurants, and so much lies broken and empty. meh. i'm cynical. i see light-speed progress east of "78" but not west of it.
