Serendipity.

{ gareki's world is changing rapidly around him, and yogi is there to make it impossibly mind-boggling. }

Serendipity is defined as an aptitude for making desirable discoveries by accident. Or, in simpler words, finding the greatest of discoveries in the dullest of places. This relates to everday life, when you least expect it. Because if you expect it, then you find yourself searching for it. And it certainly won't come to you that way. Serendipity is such a simple, yet mysterious philosophy; a philosophy like those used to explain that which cannot be explained.

There are many examples of serendipities. But the most prevelent would be those about love. Like, persay, a lost lamb finding refuge with a caring shepherd. A shut-in heart with a traumatic past, finding itself being opened up by a loving soul. Cases like these surely warm the heart. And if they didn't warm yours, have you considered looking at yourself in the mirror? Because I'm quite sure your missing somthing that should be on your person. I believe you can figure the rest out.

Gareki felt very wary of his environment nowadays. The environment around was quickly changing. It was like he was being transported to different scenes at a pace so rapid it messed with his mind. It all started with that weird kid, Nai. The kid just happens to be in the same place he was in and and suddenly Gareki's having to look after him every second of his day. He should've known to leave the kid alone, Nai's quite the nutjob. And the fact that Nai isn't even human is even more nutjob-ish. In fact, nutjob is practically rubbing off of Nai onto other people. Because of him, Gareki was now involved with Circus, the police around the area. Considering the fact that Gareki himself isn't on the same side of the law as Circus is quite troublesome also. But it seems they won't prosecute him since he stopped the bomb on that train, saving him, Nai, and some Circus members.

While Gareki was pondering his thoughts, he also wasn't paying any attention to where he's been walking. He was interrupted in mid-thought by bumping into the second-in-command on the ship, Yogi. To Gareki, Yogi was foreign. All Gareki's life, he's been surrounded by thugs, nightlights, and the filthiness radiating off the hearts of the wicked who ghost the streets of different cities he's been to. And Yogi was definately not anywhere near apart of that world. Yogi's a dazzling presence, warmth and happiness flowing from his soul. The first time Gareki saw him, he didn't know how to handle such a person, but then quickly found him annoying.

"Ahh, Gareki! You should really watch where you're going!" Yogi exclaims, smiling that big smile that stirs the insides of Gareki body.

"Sorry, Yogi." Gareki simply replies, looking at Yogi with an indifferent look, as if no feeling was ever put into those words.

Yogi just nods his head and smiles giddily, but in Gareki's mind, it looks...forced. Like he was expecting more than just a straight away answer. It was almost as if Yogi wanted to say something else, but something was tying his tongue. And whatever he had to say seemed very important to give to Gareki, outside of missions from Hirato. They stand at a stalemate for a few seconds, until it gets too uncomfortable to bear anymore. Gareki tries to shuffle past Yogi, and it works for a couple of steps forward. Until Yogi catches up to him, and grabs him by his left arm.

"O-Oi! Let go of me!" Gareki shouts, surprised at the sudden contact with Yogi. The warm flesh in contrast to his own, cold flesh made him flinch a bit, his body getting used to the sharp contrast.

"Is there something wrong, Gareki?" Yogi says, his face dead serious. He seems genuinely concerned about Gareki.

Ba-thump. What was that? Ba-thump. There it goes again. What is this feeling? This foreign feeling was stirring inside of Gareki's soul. He was somehow moved by Yogi's face. Gareki quickly shakes the thought off, and tells himself it's only because he's never seen Yogi soo serious before. This feeling came from absolutely nowhere, and Gareki's never thought of it before. But that serious, concerned face brought about something so strong it could not be contained, like a wild animal bursting out of its cage. Gareki quickly over all of the possible explanations for what was happening to him, and found only one, simple explanation. Is this love?

Love was lost to Gareki a long, long time ago. Those were dark times, and they still haunt him inside his mind. They claw and tear to force him to remember, but he still fights back, and pushes the memories back towards the dark abyss of his mind. Everyday, he's pushed them back, to the point that if they were to resurface in even the slightest bit, his conscience would crack and break. It's horribly traumatic, what was done to him. Now, he felt disgusted. The thought of love now became a concept he couldn't grasp, and he strongly convinced himself he didn't want to. So, he looked away from Yogi, and then slapped away the nimble hand that was in contact with his skin.

"Are you-" Yogi tried to say suddenly, flinching at the sudden stinging of his hand.

"You don't have to worry about me. I'm not some brat." Gareki deadpanned, refusing to make eye contact with Yogi. He didn't want to look at the facial expression he wore now, which was probably even deeper concern for Gareki.

Yogi took this as a sign to leave Gareki alone. He never planned to force information or his concern onto Gareki, but of course didn't mention this to him. Yogi simply stepped aside, and Gareki ran off quickly down the open hallway. Yogi then put his hand onto his forehead and rubbed it a little, leaning on the wall as well. He blew a good moment to smoke and ashes. His usual attitude always changed when confronting Gareki, sometimes even without him noticing until Gareki reacts strangely as well. Is it possible for such a soul to change anothers?

"If you love something, you'll let it go. If it comes back to you, then it's yours."

Four days. It's been four days since that little incident in the hallway onboard the ship. The atmosphere has become intense, especially when Yogi and Gareki are in the same room. Though Gareki tries to avoid that happening as much as humanly possible. Tsukumo and the others have noticed how the environment changes drastically everytime the two are paired together. Hirato-san decided that everybody should stop worrying and let them figure it out themselves. And so everyone did just that. The relationships onboard the ship have fallen a bit ever since this happened, and Yogi hates it.

That's it. Yogi has had enough of this silly avoiding game. He was going to confront Gareki about what happened now. He still didn't quite know what happened to make Gareki soo mad-looking like that. He wouldn't even look at Yogi. Even though inside, Yogi cared about Gareki very much. Hell, Yogi loved Gareki. Yogi knew that from the when he first saw those dark eyes, black as night hair, and unimpressed frown. Everytime Yogi saw Gareki, his heart skipped a beat inside of him. But when he saw Gareki like that for the first time ever, he felt like something had broken into a thousand pieces inside of him. Something very fragile and precious, and it made him feel like he did the same to Gareki. Like he killed a precious bird by shooting it out of the sky. The guilt of shooting such a majestic thing swallows him, especially right now. But he pushes on and charges straight towards Gareki's room.

Everybody knows that Gareki had started to spend an unhealthy amount of time inside his personal quarters, but nobody wanted to bother him, so they just occasionally brought him food and tried to convince him to come out to do petty things like helping out around the ship and such. But of course, Gareki turned down every single request. He didn't care for things like that, unless they included new types of bombs and explosives he wasn't quite familiar of yet. Which then, of course, he made himself familiar with them, preferably alone.

He's been avoiding Yogi for a few days now, and he honestly doesn't like it, no matter how much his inner mind tells him he does. The dazzling appearance, the radiating warmth, everything that was Yogi disappeared when Yogi comes near him. Yogi seems more concerned about Gareki now more than ever, and inside, he kind of likes that. But he just doesn't want to admit it. He's purposefully cutting off his own tongue. Or at least tying it still. For awhile now Gareki has been meaning to clear the air with Yogi, he was just too scared to find out what would happen once he does. Would Yogi just except it? Or would he just slap it away and continue their little game? Usually, he wouldn't care if someone he deemed foreign wouldn't speak to him. The whole world was a simple tool box filled with complex tools for him to experiment with. Each tool more different than the last. That's so to keep everything interesting. But everything's changing all around him.

He can't even look in the mirror honestly and say that he's no different than when these whole shenanigans started. The one thing he thought was true became a lie. Gareki's world had always been full of deceit and lies. This was reality, this was how he learned to trust only himself, this was how he learned to survive. Like survival of the fittest in a more refined environment, but that's starting to change. Everything around him has become more docile, and generously comfortable. It makes him rethink the ways of this contrasting world.

Yogi finally makes it Gareki's room. He feels as though he took too long to get there, completely ignoring the fact that he charged through the ship's hallways just to get there. Yogi makes a move to knock on the door, but his hand suddenly stops, millimeters before coming in contact with the cold metal door. His body, frozen in mid-motion.

There was a reason.

The thought of that was enough to send Yogi's mind spinning. He couldn't break away from the many reasons it could've been. The many reasons why Gareki became like that, why he shunned him away. Gareki had never acted like that before. It always seemed like Gareki accepted him as a friend.

Only a friend.

The words vibrated through his thoughts, and pained him inside his heart. That's right, he was only a friend to Gareki. Nothing more and nothing less. Afterall, they only met because of the situation they were in with Nai. A simple, basic, relationship. There was nothing more to it.

No.

Yogi shook the thoughts away. He didn't read minds. He didn't know if Gareki felt that way. The only way to find out, was to hear it from Gareki's own mouth.

knock, knock.

Yogi waited patiently afterwards, but didn't hear a response. He was far from discouraged, and began to knock even louder and more quickly, his knocks starting to lead up to banging on the metal door.

"Oi! What the hell do you think you're do-?!" Gareki shout angrily, his words cut off by Yogi, who suddenly hugged him.

"O-oi, Yogi..." Gareki's words trailed off into nothingness. He felt strange that he didn't dislike the hug. The warmth penetrated into his skin, and then into his heart.

"Please, don't avoid me anymore." Yogi whispered into Gareki's ear. Yogi didn't mean to hug Gareki so suddenly, but in a rush of confidence he overdid it, and just proceeded to go with the flow of events.

Gareki's heart leaped when he heard those sweet, cloying words that numbed his brain. He couldn't hear his conscience telling him how wrong this was, and he couldn't care less anymore. This warmth, he didn't want it to leave him.

"Well then, you better take responsibility, Yogi."

Yogi's heart flew right out of his chest. He got his answer from Gareki, and he will always remember it.

The world was dull before you arrived. The sky was always blue, and the faces of the people were always smiling. But then, like a flash of lightning coming to strike the earth below, you fell towards me. I knew I shouldn't have felt a need to never leave that cute face of yours, but I couldn't resist that charm. I ended up finding my greatest treasure.

My greatest serendipity.
