Oh, how sad. I'm afraid that's another strike against southern California in my mental 'places to live' tally.
Garrison Keillor on last weekend's Prairie Home Companion said some thing like "what's not to love about any holiday that brings children to your door?" I said "right, on!"
I'd bring the candy with you to work and leave it out in a common staff area or reception area so staff and/or patients can eat it.
As for the unsafe factor...yeah, lots of bad stuff happened around here last night, including a pregnant mother and her kids who got caught in gang gunfire and the mom got shot in the head (and died, obviously). I hate living in this city more and more every day. Nothing but sad news.
Sad to see how trick or treat is evolving in today's society . . . but if it is any comfort...I probably had about 80-100 kids come by.....from about 2 year olds (cute cute) with parents - mid teenagers (out for the sugar loot).
Make contacts at work with a candy dish ON your desk. May be an interesting experiment in itself.
