Sometimes, it makes her sick, how fucking domestic she's ended up. Babe's standing in the doorway with his back to her and she's padding around the hut putting laundry into drawers and Nelson's under her feet, yowling like he's talking to her. From time to time, she glances up at Babe. All that she can do is stay close and touch him any chance she gets.
She misses Buck in a way that she's not quite sure she even wants to try putting into words.
She puts a pile of Babe's t-shirts into the draw, pushing them back to make more room and her fingers brush against something and, without thinking, she pulls it out and looks at it.
It's not that he expects Eden to be doing house chores. On the contrary, he kinda expects her to go outside (hopefully with gloves on) and beat the shit out of the punching bag for a little while. What he doesn't expect is for the shuffling to cease and turn into silence.
It scares him enough for him to turn from the doorway and look back into the hut. For a moment, he's relieved to see Eden still standing there, but the relief is short lived when he sees what she's holding. The band's not much, but Ray did a great job with what they had - it's gold and even has Eden's name carved in the inside of the metal.

Holding the ring between forefinger and thumb, it takes Eden a moment to look up at him. Her heart's thumping in her chest and her mouth is suddenly dry. She swallows and then she opens her mouth to speak and it takes her a moment to work out what she actually wants to say.
"No," he lies, his immediate response. His cheeks are hot and she's got this shocked expression like she's terrified, and that makes it even worse. Of course, he knows she can see right through him. Suddenly, he wishes he could disappear, maybe just for a few days to let her forget she even found the fuckin' thing.
"Well, I mean yeah, but," he swallows, his throat thick and dry. But what? "I was gonna, ya know..." ask you to marry me "..but then Buck's gone, and everyone just goes, yaknow?" He's stumbling over his words like a schoolboy who's nervous in front of his classmates, afraid they'll laugh and now he's gotta prove himself, but it's different here. Here's his lady, and he wants to marry her, but he's also afraid to.
