It occured to me, albeit in retrospect, to ask what you would make of this: is it quite mean to buy a visual dictionary for the average 8-year-old as his birthday present?

Um, I dunno--I'm betting it's not his favorite present that year; but it would depend on the kid. ;)

I think realistically, I didn't have my hopes up that high. d= He's not exactly a very bookish sort of kid, that just whittles down the chances (of liking and enjoying the present) even more, right?

Honestly I couldn't tell you... I was reading Stephen King when I was 8 :)

lol you might be able to say it's mean, but I wouldn't say that... depends on the people involved ;)
