I don't give a monkey's nuts what canon does or doesn't with pairings, I never have in any of my fandoms. As a western show slasher, you get used to TPTB suddenly freaking out about the gay vibes and writing in a het love interest or two. I just hope that the film doesn't drag Trigun any further from its roots than the anime already did, because if it distorts the characters (particularly Vash) still further from their manga versions, I'll want to scream.

Yeah, Fandom pairings very rarely attract me. Personally I'm not worried about the anime/Manga issue either, because if anything I PREFER the Anime, but that's just a matter of personal tastes. I'm just glad that we'll get SOMETHING, and hopefuly something good.

As a veteran of debates about new movies in fandoms, I'm a big believer that nothing is a lot better than something bad. But we've no information right now to judge the film's potential, so knocking it at this stage is completely pointless.

Yeah, that post I made yesterday was too rash.

Fair enough.

Proof that I agree with every word you just said: the first and only reaction I had to the words "news of an oncoming film" was for my jaw to drop and my brain to come to a shrieking halt, after which point I could think nothing else but "There's gonna be a MOVIE?!" I don't know what all complaining is going on, but I'm pretty the sentiment of "We are Trigun fans. There will soon be more Trigun. Where is the bad?" sums up my own feelings.

And I very much agree about Trigun not being about romance; in fact part of the reason I fell so in love with it was because romance was a very small speck on the horizon of Biblically-proportioned moral and scientific concepts that is the story. Also, if the movie's characterizations are in line with the anime's characterizations, I won't bitch about OOCness; I already view the anime and the manga as separate but equally valid canons. So really, I can't see the bad in this situation.

I mean, there's going to be a Trigun movie. Dude. That's just awesome.

Exactly! One of the strong spots of Trigun is that there is not much Romance, or that the romance takes a back seat to everything else. I love Trigun for it's characters and concepts, not romance. The only thing that really concerns me about this movie is when they're going to set it and, if it's happening AFTER the end of the anime... what are they going to do with Knives? Guesses anyone?

First of all, I'd like to salute Yma and her wonderful points/rant. I particularly agree with your comment about how Trigun never was about pairings. I'm perfectly happy reading a gen fic that discusses Vash's Plant-ness as with a fic with some hardcore Vash/Wolfwood. ^_^
I also would like to state my agreement with ravenclaw42; my first reaction, upon hearing (just last week, actually) that there would be a Trigun movie? One loud fangirl squeal. :D
I just can't wait 'til we get more information (is it in production yet, or what? How many years will we have to wait for it? I know next to nothing!).
I'll probably be perfectly happy with anything they decide to do, as long as it involves Vash (and, preferably, what happens to Knives) in a big way (which it probably will, in which case I'll just be happy all around).
*toasts other posters for statements well voiced and fades back into the lurking shadows*

Yeah, thanks. I know, the movie is exciting isn't it? I can't wait to hear more about it. Fingers crossed it goes into fruition, it sounds like it might be but I don't know any details at all yet. I hope they deal with Knives too, though I won't be too sad if they don't. One of the best things about the anime was it's wonderfully open ending. That scene where Vash tossess asside his coat... the most uplifting scene I know of.
