"Ugh, I feel so bloated."
Juliet had her hands wrapped around her belly, as a pink nightdress showed off a slender, sleek figure with blonde hair rolled to one side. James leant over the bed, his toned chest covered by the duvet, as he looked at Juliet. His hair appeared frayed and frizzy, almost like a lion’s mane, but showed off a superior, powerful presence about him.

“I think you’re absolutely beautiful, Juliet.” She turned round to him with a smile and sat on the edge of the bed. “You know what I’ve always wondered? You had nicknames for all of your other friends, but you never had one for me.” James moved closer towards her until he sat next to her on the bed.

“What, you’re jealous? You wanted a nickname?” He gave her a friendly poke.

“It’s just interesting. Makes me feel kinda special.” She looked down at her hands, rubbing together, a nervous habit. His hands rested on hers and he brushed her hair behind her ear.

“I guess it was my way of distancing myself - if I made jokes people wouldn’t think twice about me. I used to be a con man so I’m used of thinking up lies, backstories...all a bit of fun. But with you, I guess I left that behind. I wanted to be myself.” Juliet nodded thoughtfully.

“I should be thankful then, I guess. So, you hungry? We could grab something to eat, since we’re up.”

James put his hands on top of Juliet’s for a moment. “What’s the rush? I have everything I want right here.” He smiled as his hands slowly moved up her dress, caressing her thighs, feeling her soft skin as he nibbled gently on her neck. It felt different but it was exciting nonetheless. To be honest, James never thought he’d fall for anyone, not again.

Juliet was different though. She could see past his sarcastic, sometimes bitter comments, everything he didn’t say she already knew and everything he did showed another side to him. Mistreated and underappreciated it all caused him to act the way he did.

As for Kate, his “freckles”. The first person he noticed when he arrived. Between picking fights with pretty much every passenger on that flight and rummaging through masses of luggage for anything remotely useful, he noticed Kate. She was a follower, not a leader. She wanted to be appear “good” so no one could question her past. But those who are criminals, can often spot another criminal. Maybe it is what brought them together, but it also drove a rift between them.

Seeing Kate again in the jungle brought back painful memories for James. As if the island was taunting him, reminding him of what he once had. But not anymore. When he told Juliet about seeing her again she wasn't sure how to react. He hadn’t told anyone. Maybe she should be thankful. She was the only one he told because he needed comfort and assurance.  After all this time he still thought about her; no matter how much Kate pushed him away he still wanted her. And obviously, it would take a lot for him to forget her. He hadn’t loved many girls, but she was definitely high on that list. He was sensitive, even if he didn’t like to show it. And just maybe, Juliet wished someone would care for her like that.

There was so much Juliet wanted to say to him. What started was a simple friendship based on shared feelings of abandonment, lead to numerous nights sleeping in close quarters, hand holding, whispering secretively and protecting one another. She had fallen for him, very gradually but these feelings were mutual. Crying on his shoulder, losing baby after baby Juliet felt vulnerable and worthless. If this was her calling, then why did she fail? She was just not good enough and couldn’t win. James had watched her operate, do everything correctly; all she needed was a little faith.

“I don’t know what I would have done without you.” Juliet spoke. We’re a team, you hold my hand, and we tear it down.

“I don’t know what you are talking about,” James smirked, “I didn’t do a thing but we’ve always had each other backs, haven’t we?” James wrapped his arm around her shoulder, tucking her under his arms and pulling her closely towards him.

“You know, I’m used to feeling abandoned, left out. For the longest time I felt like I didn’t belong here. But I guess it is harder to leave, when you care about someone." She squeezed his warm palm and James smiled a twinkle in his eye.

“Don’t worry, you’ll never be alone again.” Juliet cracked into a smile as she felt the wind rush out of her, as James lay her gently on the bed as their lips pressed together, his face buried against her neck savouring the air as it rushed between her lungs. The taste of his lips, his warm fingers caressing every line in her face, every area of skin was making her squirm in excitement. The heart wants what it wants, and this time its for real...
