She was never seen alive again. Dick Grayson, feeling the boy's pain, feeling like he had to do something, went to their funeral. He felt like an outsider amongst the rich and elite of Gotham, but one look at the face of the grieving young boy known as Bruce Wayne hardened his resolve to stay. After the services, he went up to the boy and sat down on the cemetery bench beside him. “You don't know me,” he started, “But my name is Dick Grayson. My parents died when I was young too. I know what you're going through.”

The boy didn't say anything. The family butler stood nearby, face twisted slightly in grief, but his eyes gave Dick permission to continue. He wasn't going to have the common man dragged away from his prince of a charge quite yet.

Dick took a deep breath and closed his eyes, trying to dispel the images of broken ropes and broken bones, screams of shock and panic as the audience realized this wasn't supposed to happen. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a scrap of paper and a pencil. He flattened it out on his ( ... )

A few months after the funeral, Bruce invited Dick over to the manor. Dick going to Wayne Manor wasn't an anomaly in and of itself; the butler, Alfred, had taken Dick up on his offer to talk on Bruce's behalf, and regularly asked him over to spend time with Bruce, or even just shoved a phone into Bruce's hand. The boy was stubborn, sullen, and moody, and Dick didn't blame him one bit. Alfred had confided in him that Bruce didn't really have any close friends he could talk to, and they had ended up sharing many a cup of tea worrying over him ( ... )

This makes me feel feels of indescribable heartwarming and sadness for both of them. And, oh, Bruce... that is so him.

Though, it does make you wonder how Bruce arrived at "Robin" and what else the age change affects...

I'm glad this got filled so fast, thanks!

The Batman and Robin pair is really tugging my heartstrings. It was gut wrenching reading the part when Dick failed to save Bruce's parents because of a malfunctioning tool. A FREAKING MALFUNCTIONING TOOL. Damn... TT.TT And then when he attended the funeral and provided comfort for the boy, that was just... maaannnn I'mnotgonnacryI'mnotgonnacry!Bruce was also awesome in here. But not because he figured out Dick is Batman (that's expected) but on the fact that he didn't even blame him! He was a kid who just lost his parents because Batman couldn't save them and he just blamed the old malfunctioning tool! Not the person! That... that... Idk what kind of character that was and how much of it is needed but damn young Bruce was just plain awesome for doing that ( ... )

M'gann found him about halfway to Earth. Though, from her reaction, she had known he'd been there the whole time. “They're going to think I kidnapped you you know,” was the first thing she said when she opened the storage cabinet ( ... )
