I still read LJ... I miss the longer, more insightful posts, even though few seem to have the attention span for more than 140 characters anymore.
Ever thought of writing con reports to yourself, like a diary? No need to share them, but they'll be there later to reflect on, and you don't have to worry about hurting anyone's feelings. I've done that several times.
I've been in a bit of a funk myself as of late, feeling disconnected, wondering if my time in furrydom has run its course. Seeing that condescending meme going around "So, at what age do YOU plan to leave the fandom?" was quite timely and made me chuckle a bit!

Wow. I can see that kind of mindset in someone who is only in furry as a personal fad or a short-term "fling"-type thing. Otherwise, age in and of itself has no significant relevance in whether one participates in fandom or not. To me, the only criterion that's meaningful in deciding when it's time to leave is when it isn't fun anymore. Something like furry has to be fun, or it's simply not worth the time and money it takes to participate in it. If it's all become boring or pedestrian and someone just trudges off to go to cons like it's a duty or chore or something, then maybe it would be time for them to think about leaving, or at least taking a vacation from furry for awhile. Myself, I left the fandom for 10 years precisely because it became very much NOT FUN in the late 1990s. The atmosphere in furry had become so poisonous and the level of internecine hatred so high that it simply became intolerable, and I could no longer justify continuing to

I was illustrating the point @TheBogosphere made: Older furries are so great. If you think older furries are weird, you should ask yourself at what age you plan to leave the fandom.
I love the fun and energy and enthusiasm of the current wave of furries. Reminds me of when I first found furry, and FC15 brought it to a head. Connecting with friends old and new. And just having a lot of fun!
I don't think I know what you're getting at... are you saying that people desert you when you talk about being unhappy? As far as I'm concerned, those people can go ahead and leave. But you're the one who has to decide what value they have to you.
True. I have a lot of thoughts and worries going thru my head, and oversimplify things by making it a numbers game, and as follower count goes down, I must be failing.
I'm continually reminding myself that it's not a numbers thing, I have numerous friends, and good quality friends.
Yippee, I'd LOVE to spend time with you at a con; you've taught me so much about suiting, mascotting, and just all around having fun! Its just at certain cons, we're either busy or elsewhere at the con; about the only time I get to see you is when yer running a panel (and you can bet that I won't miss them)
The thing I've learned is that you make your own fun at a con, and if things don't go as planned, you adapt, improvise and go with the flow in order to get back the good feelings. I know you know this, but sometimes a reminder is a good thing ^.^ This also goes for LJ and FA; all blogs are written for yourself, not necessarily for others. You write what you want to remember, and let others read about the time you had.

Absolutely right on. Couldn't've said it better myself. ^^
it was good to see you for those few fleeting seconds in passing! i never get to spend enough time with everyone i'd like to at con, but i'm ok with just brushing paws with folks whom i don't get to see often, even if it is brief. i've learned not to make great expectations, even if i feel like i might be missing out on some great interactions. but really, i need to make more suits so can do some swapping! =o) cheers!
