NaNoWriMo and Me

Taking a break tonight from the NaNo writing as my head hurts and my plotting brain is sort of stuck. What seemed like a pretty straightforward tale is taking on a life of its own, but not giving me a road map to share the direction with me. I'm sort of going along for the ride, and as the writer that's a scary place to be. It's like the only way ( Read more... )

The great thing about rough drafts is that absolutely no one except you has to see them -- so you could try telling your internal editor that, and see if she lets you go until revision time!

I have a lot of luck with speaking my dialogue out loud; that tells me right away if it's clunky.

My internal editor is a he, and I think in a previous writer was a Marine Drill Sergeant....

I try and slog forward, and ignore the all but compulsion to edit...

But the bottom line is this really is fun. Makes me do things I wouldn't ordinarily do.

The goal is enough in and of itself. I was planning on editing last years novel, but elected to let it be for many reasons.

I am not sure what to do with this one, or if I will. The temptation to blow it up and start over is strong. Must be the devil inside or something similar.
