Is there a single word descriptive term for all root vegetables, other than simply "root vegetables"? Boyfriend says there is, but I can't think of one.

He thinks I'm crazy for thinking one wouldn't exist.

There are tubers and rhizomes, but that's not exact. Fodder is sometimes used, as in the case of 'mangel' beets fed to livestock, but 'fodder' is being used the same way as 'grist'. I've heard some people call taproots 'taps', but usually in regard to trees and not edibles.
