les grandes médiévales

Since I'm writing this post from home, our plans for a quick weekend getaway didn't pan out, which was fine by me and I daresay even the children were happy about it. The Bun's latest hobby is making books, but instead of writing them himself as he used to previously, he copies them out from the books he likes and adds his own illustrations. I ( Read more... )

Oh, that sounds so fun! Too bad it's a little too far from us...I know there are loads of medieval markets and stuff like that going on, but they don't sound nearly as big and impressive as this!
(Well, and also the fact that my husband doesn't speak any French besides "bonjour", "merci" and "deux" (what I taught him to say if anyone asked him anything at front of the rides when we went to Eurodisney ;) ), so this might not be as much fun for him...once our little one is big enough for stuff like that, I'll have to look into it a bit, I'm sure there are big festivals like this closer to us too)

It was a fun day out. Do you speak French? I think even your husband would enjoy the visual spectacles without much understanding of French - so much to see.

We were planning on heading to Freiburg this past weekend, but I felt too tired to travel. Have you been there before?

I speak some French, enough to get by. I understand a LOT more than I can say myself, especially written French.

Oh yeah, lots of times! Both my parents and my sister (as well as an uncle) went to university in Freiburg. It's very pretty! Picturesque, and beautifully situated at the southern end of the Black Forest.

Our French is probably on par, then. I understand a lot, but I have problems conjugating on the fly. Even *I* cringe when I hear myself speak sometimes.

Do you think Freiburg is a good base for exploring the Black Forest? We're planning a trip at some point, and while I was doing some preliminary research my head started spinning. I hardly know where to begin! North, south, middle... I guess I picked Freiburg because it looks like a great city to explore, and also because it shortens our drive a little than if we had to drive further north.

It was loads of fun. I think I got more out of it than the kids did!
