venice with the kids

Well well well, we've been far busier over here than I had imagined, and our stay in Venice is already more than half over. Before we came I kept wondering how we were ever going to pass the time here, especially on such a sleepy island, but somehow we did, and what's more, we've come to really enjoy our stay here. If anyone's wondering why we seem ( Read more... )

I realised that our kids can actually walk very far, provided they are given the right 'distractions'. About a month ago we covered 6km with Jo! Imagine an almost 5 year old covering that distance! We distracted her by giving her a stick so that we can mark the ground with arrows to guide other hikers!

How is the beco? I'm thinking of getting that or the ergo. Did you use it when your kids were just born? I'm hoping that maybe that a carrier I can skip buying a stroller here cos we'll be here only for 2.5 months after I deliver.

It's the same with The Bun! He did a decent hike down the island armed only with a long stick. I think it's not their legs or energy levels, but that walking gets boring after a while…

I've used this Beco since The Bun was a baby. Ergo has some handy pockets sewn into the carrier, but otherwise they're about the same. I find that newborns are too delicate to be placed inside the carrier, even if you have the newborn insert (comes with the Beco, an additional accessory you must buy with the Ergo) - there's a minimum height requirement for the baby for it to be safe. I used a hand-me-down babybjorn for the first 6 weeks and then switched over to the Beco - this was for both kids. I didn't use a stroller much for the kids' infancy because they always cried when they were in it, they preferred the carriers much more.

I would suggest getting waiting till you get to SG to get your stroller, unless you can get one (second-hand?) that fits the baby's carseat - those snap n' go types. Try craigslist or ebay?

Your reports always make me want to travel! I've been to Venice and as far as I remember, I enjoyed it, but I was only 11 at the time, over 23 years ago. So maybe it's time for another visit :)
