Today The Bun and I made a Countdown Chain - basically cut-up strips from magazine pages glued together to form a chain. He doesn't yet understand the concept of a month (or a week, etc) so this is a good way for him to visualise the length of time his father will be away. He is at the stage where he loves anything to do with scissors and glue so this helped keep him occupied in the afternoon while his sister was napping. (I secretly wish I could have both kids napping at the same time but I think I'd rather have both of them knock out early at night instead.)
Cutting and pasting.
That's a pretty long time to be gone.
The Countdown Chain is now hanging from a hook at our window and it looks loooooong. (Sigh.) The Bun gets to snip off a ring every morning when he wakes up and he'll be able to see how it gradually gets shorter and shorter. To tell the truth, I don't think he misses J as much as he would if I were gone instead. He sometimes will ask where his father is but he's such a mummy's boy that as long as I'm still around, all is well and life goes on. The Chain is probably more for my benefit than for his.
Twenty-eight days to go; four weeks and counting.
