As with most of these crisis things I can only hope it awakens people to the perpetual state of emergency many of these people live in as it is...
I will never forget the starry-eyed teenage self that I was, thrilled at the prospect of going to a "Genuine Native American Indian Reservation". At the time I was very preoccupied with N.A. Shamanism. Only to discover mobile homes with pieces of plywood leaning against them on which were painted the words; "Will Work For Firewood"
Living in a much similar situation as I do, I am filled with gratitude that I live in the midst of such plenty that I can get by on the scraps of others. These people have no such safety net.
You and John Friend (yoga teacher, founder of Anusara yoga, and open-minded interesting guy) need to meet and have tea some day. I have no power to arrange this, but I think you would both really enjoy each other's company and learn from each other.
