This is a very long post indeed; I hope that my readers will indulge me. Someone asked me what Yevide thinks of the two men in her life, and someone else asked me if she had anybody at home to whom she might write. My mood was melancholy today, so I tried my hand at writing Yevide's letter. I'm afraid there's quite a lot to wade through first.

Oh. Wow.

The set up is wonderful, and the letter makes my heart go all squishy. It's such a treat to get to see inside those who seem to have what it is they want. To witness Yevide of Igen and Reaches be just 'Vide the Goat', a little bit lost, a little bit thoughtful, forging on ahead because she has already cast her stones.

The line about rationing nicknames and smiles, as well as the speculation about dead Hirth, are my favorite parts.

This is so precious. It makes me feel so bad for what Gans has been, what he has done, and it only makes what is still coming more horrible, more wonderful.
