My repetoire has expanded beyond games / books and you are officially in for it.

*laughs*
just wait a few months. If Julia's like any of the other babies I've known, you'll be right back to games and books. Just... different ones.

It might be "Julia likes Sandra Boynton!" or it might be "Julia thinks making faces is the awesomest game ever!" but you'll be there.

That is a remarkably good point.

It'll be very interesting to see what books and games she likes. I know some of the early games are things that almost all kids like, but at the point that they start asking for specific books their tastes are developed enough to have significant preferences.

I admit I kind of hope she likes books about monkeys and other animals and folk stories and is not fond of Disney, but I also have to admit that I know it's not going to be my choice what she likes. ;)

Well, it is and it's not.
It's unlikely that you can innoculate her against a disney princess phase. But you can certainly make sure she has a cool enough variety of books 'n games that she doesn't think that's all there is to life.

Often, f'rex, the gender normativity kids show is imposed unknowingly by the adults around them, who don't think to get a little girl kid-mechanic toys instead of MOAR DOLLZ.

There's a lot of wisdon in what you say. You have influence, but you're not the only influence, even from very young.

Girls aren't, of course, hardwired to like jewelry and princesses and pink. But humans are hardwired to attempt to figure out how the tribe is structured and where they fit into that structure, and they use all the clues they have. That she is a girl means she will look at other girls to see what her role is, because one of the first clues about role a child has is gender.

Note that neither "mom" nor "dad" are "other girls", they are mom and dad. So the decisions your girl makes on what girls are like will, inevitably, come from other places than just you.

My two-year-old niece's three most significant female influences are: her mother, who is a marathon-running chemistry professor; her auntie, who is Silkie; and her cousin Kate, who is a Lego-building trombone-playing brown belt. My niece insists on pink dresses and a purse and strings of fake jewelry, and wants her mother to wear a dress when she goes out to

Yay quick recovery!
When do we get Julia pictures?

Possibly as early as Monday or Tuesday - while I am able to periodically lap top from the hospital, getting pictures off of a memory card is beyond my current resources.

Yeah, me too. I'm a little weirded out that changing diapers doesn't bother me much - I'd really expected it to.
