I've been prodded out of the shadows by an outpouring of demand (well, one person asked) that I post a letter I wrote to our local newspaper. I was inspired by L&J's lovely wedding, as well as the knowledge that our local state rep -- he's the Minority Whip -- would be playing a key role in the upcoming drama associated with the attempt to ban ( Read more... )

Please do so! It's not exactly confidential, since I did have it published in a newspaper :-). I'd be happy to have it used to good effect in whatever ways are possible.

K, this is a beautiful missive. I particularly love the consistent tone: wonder mingled with New England pragmatism. Thank you for sending it, and thank you again for posting it.

Thanks, everyone, for the kind compliments! I think most people here in town are of the "live and let live" mindset and, if the polls are an accurate reflection, that seems to be true of communities across the state. It's the governor who is out of step on this issue, as with his gutting of the state's open space preservation and environmental efforts. There's a pattern here that is distinctly uncharacteristic of Massachusetts.

It's time to stick together and make sure things keep going in the right direction.
