As far as I can tell, the general derision for Dark Angel can be explained by one of two things. Either most people value better acting over better-written plots and character development for all, not just the main two or three characters, or there are two versions of the show, one of which actually sucks and the other being the one the boy & I own ( Read more... )

I watched this show back in the day when it was actually on TV before I even knew Jensen Ackles was hot stuff, and I remember being pretty sad when it ended. When I got into SPN, I didn't remember much about it, but fandom sort of convinced me it was absolute crap. Until I actually sat down and watched it again.

And yeah, okay, production quality isn't the best I'm a film and videos study major, I care about this more than the average viewer, and sometimes I wanted to get rid of Logan with his bad acting and his less-than-stellar writing, but for the most part, I adore it. It's filled with stuff you NEVER see on TV, even in the land of sci-fi, and some really awesome, spectacular minor characters. It's clever, it's fun, it's serious when it needs to be, and it never fails to make me smile. I'm glad you enjoyed it!

As far as I can tell, the idea that it's crap didn't come until years after it aired and Supernatural started up. I have no idea where it came from, man, this show is fabulous. And yay! Someone else who likes it! There are of course things about it that aren't omgamazing, it's not a work of staggering genius (show me a TV show that is and I'll have a unicorn ready to sell you) but it is good TV and it makes me so sad to see it having such a bad reputation.

When I started out in Supernatural fandom, back in the murky days of season one, and I started talking with other people about Jensen, I was told not to bother with Smallville and Dark Angel, except to watch his bits, because they're equally terrible shows and not worth anyone's time. Every single person who has said that to me IS FIRED. SO VERY AND UTTERLY FIRED, CLEAN OUT YOUR DESKS IMMEDIATELY. Dark Angel is awesome and I am going to tell you exactly how.THIS, OMG. I *LOVE* Dark Angel!! It definitely had a few flaws here and there, but the basic premise of the show was EXCELLENT, and it was super enjoyable. I too loved seeing a cast of such varied backgrounds and abilities ( ... )

I used to watch this when it was on TV, but I can barely remember it and now everyone's talking about it so I might have to try and find DVDs :/
