I've been thinking about the incident with our memories. In some ways I can understand why the City would want to take our memories away. They are the things that make us the people we are. Some people would argue that it was the experiences we have but if we can't remember those experiences then I'm not sure how much something affects us. I guess ( Read more... )

...I'm sorry that I forgot you, Spencer. I didn't mean to...but I can remember you and everything else now. And...writing things down is a good idea.

...I'd still like to do that television marathon if you want...

It's not your fault, Rue. A lot of people forgot things. I'm just really glad you've regained your memory. Do you feel alright now?

Absolutely. I can bring it over anytime.

Uh huh, I do...I'm still angry I forgot things, and I still don't know why I did...but at least I can remember everything again.

...would this weekend be okay?

I can understand that. We're usually harder on ourselves than anyone else is.

This weekend would be great.

I take it you're writing things down as well? it's a good idea in a place like this and a way to be remembered after we leave here.

How are you doing?

I'm not, but I've heard others mention it.

Well enough. Taking care of my friends as best I can.

It can't hurt. At the very least you leave a record of yourself here.

Are they all alright?

I wonder if I should start writing down things that are important to me as well, just in case.

It can't hurt. At the very least you leave a record of yourself here. At the worst you know what you've experienced here.

True. Maybe I'll have to make time for it.

You could probably do off network voice journals. You'd just have to make sure they were put somewhere safe instead of stored on your device.

I don't like forgettin' things like that.

I don't think most people do. Did the curse get you too? At least I'm assuming it's a curse until I've got further knowledge about what it might have been. I've got some theories but none substantial enough to call it anything but a curse.

I forgot a little bit, but I still didn't like it.

Did you forget stuff?

I was fortunate. I didn't forget anything but I'm taking pains to make certain that if I do I'll be able to recover my memories at least in part. My friend forgot everything. Including me.

I blame the deities, not the City. They're the ones who seem to be in charge of this place. And whatever reason they had for doing it, it was wrong. I can understand the power it gave them to do it, that's the pay off. And I get it from their perspectives, but it was still wrong.

I'm not entirely sure it was the deities. The City is run by a machine--the carousel and the clock, right? Theoretically those machines run on our misery and memories. At least if one can believe the Deities penchant for memories. If it's like gas in a car maybe the machines running the City needed an influx of memories and the deities provided it.

Machines can't curse people. It's impossible right? I mean I've seen people do magic kind of things here. These curses, they're magic. They have to be. But if you're right and it's a machine, we just need to find the damn plug, right?

I don't think it was a curse. I think it was a malfunction of the machines. They're working again. Sometimes pulling the plug could be more dangerous than we think. We have to determine what the machines power and what they protect us from, if anything.
