On illness evoked by the mind

I have a friend who is undergoing severe suffering. She has severely disfigured herself in an attempt to relieve the symptoms. It is extremely tragic. It is also affecting those around her quite a bit. I am not sure how this will end up, but I hope that love, support, compassion, and healing are what lies ahead instead of the extreme
