"That was fantastic, hyung!" KiBum exclaimed as HyungJoon stepped back out of the contest area. Poochyena was curled up in the older Kim brother's arms, a gold medal around her neck.
"It was, wasn't it," HyungJoon couldn't stop grinning, Poochyena licking his cheek. It was still a thrill to win a Contest, with another medal to add to his collection. Poochyena had won each Smart-rank Contest he'd entered her in, starting with bronze medals and working her way up to gold. She worked hard for these Contests, and he was so proud of her.
HyunJoong greeted him with a lazy smile and an arm slung around his shoulders. "Why don't we get something to eat, my treat?"
Poochyena yipped happily, and HyungJoon's stomach growled. "Food sounds good," he said sheepishly, walking with them towards the Contest Hall exit. Glancing to one side, he noticed those two tall guys from earlier again, the one with the unfortunate nose swinging Chikorita around happily. Seeing the bronze medal, HyungJoon chuckled and left. Seems like the Contest had worked out for them too.
They ended up picking up enough food from street stalls for a feast, deciding to eat outside where their Pokemon could enjoy the food too. Finding a picnic area, HyungJoon dropped his bags on the table with Poochyena circling his feet. "Hold on, we need to unwrap everything first, or are you going to eat the wrappers too," he chuckled at her, digging around for the containers of Pokemon food.
KiBum let out Machop, HyunJoong's Abra already floating along beside them. The second the three bowls were set on the ground, the Pokemon leapt for them.
"Let me take this," HyungJoon rescued the medal before Poochyena could get food crumbs all over it. He brushed a bit of dirt off the edge and placed the medal on the table, beaming.
"You should enter her in the higher contests soon," KiBum said, chuckling at his happy brother as he and HyunJoong set out the food for them, opening containers.
"Maybe, but I still need to train her a lot, have you ever seen those contests?" HyungJoon asked, sitting down and pulling over a container of noodles. "They're crazy, I don't know if she's ready for that yet. I'm fine with these medals until then. Plus I still have to keep up with you," he grinned, nudging KiBum. "If my little brother gets to the Elite Four before me, I'll never hear the end of it!"
"You know I'm gonna get there first anyways," KiBum said cheekily. "Plus I already met one, remember?"
"Yeah, and you got your ass kicked by a pink fluffball, I remember." HyungJoon ducked under the carrot flung his way, KiBum's face red. "I wish I'd been there to see it too!"
"Like you would have done any better," KiBum retorted, arms folding across his chest. "Stop laughing!" He tried to reach his brother in a headlock, HyungJoon leaning away and continuing to laugh until he leaned too far back, falling off the bench with a squawk.
If it hadn't been for the change in perception, he wouldn't have noticed that the gold medal sitting on the end of the table was gone.
"Huh?!" HyungJoon looked around and spotted a Plusle and Minun disappearing into the bushes with the medal. "Hey!! Get back over here!" He got up and ran after them, promptly tripping on a tree root and faceplanting.
"What?" KiBum blinked, noticing what was wrong. "Machop, follow them!" he ordered, his Pokemon chasing after the mice Pokemon. The two brothers ran to where they'd disappeared into the trees, to see Machop hadn't gotten very far, sprawled out on the ground after being shocked.
"My medal..." HyungJoon stared sadly.
"We'll find them," HyunJoong said behind them, nodding to Abra who disappeared. KiBum patted HyungJoon's shoulder before calling out his Manectric to search as well.
Poochyena pawed at HyungJoon's leg, whining. HyungJoon scooped her up, smiling when she licked his face. "It's okay girl, let's go find our medal."
