No sooner than Zhou Mi and KyuHyun had gotten settled in Acacia City did Zhou Mi throw himself wholeheartedly into the Contest world, looking up all the contest dates and how to enter. KyuHyun was dragged into preparations whether he wanted to be or not; school hadn't started yet, and he was already prepared as much as he could be. Normally he'd take that as an invitation to hole himself up in their new apartment and play video games, but Zhou Mi had other plans.

"Which color looks best, Kui Xian?" Zhou Mi asked, comparing outfits for Chikorita. "Red? Yellow? I like the red one, but that looks too Christmas-y with her green skin, don't you think?"

"Yeah, sure," KyuHyun said noncommittally. When Zhou Mi looked over at his boyfriend, he found KyuHyun had brought one of his handheld games.

"...You're supposed to be helping me," Zhou Mi sniffed, turning away.

"Mi, you said yourself I might as well be color blind, why are you asking me to help you pick out costumes?" KyuHyun asked, looking up at his older boyfriend.

"Oh fine," Zhou Mi pouted sadly. "I won't ask you for color choices. But you have to help with other stuff still."

Seeing the pout, KyuHyun sighed and closed his game. A sad Zhou Mi just didn't work, and if he didn't give in, the older man would pout all day and then he wouldn't get any that night.

'Other stuff' turned out to be holding the various accessories Zhou Mi was going through in the store, keeping a hold on the ones Zhou Mi liked while he fussed over his Pokemon. Chikorita sat still through all of it, and he had to commend her on her patience. If he had been the one Zhou Mi was trying to dress like a doll, he would have bolted at the first polka-dotted bow.

"...Do you think it's too much?" Zhou Mi fussed an hour later. Poor Chikorita looked like she was a katamari ball with the amount of stuff on her.

"Poochyena, where are you?" Called a voice near them, and suddenly Zhou Mi shrieked, jumping away from a clothing rack. KyuHyun saw a wet, black nose snuffling at where his boyfriend's leg had been a second ago.

A young man with wide brown eyes appeared around the racks. "I'm sorry, I lost track of her, she gets so excited in these places." Reaching under the clothes hanging, he scooped a Poochyena puppy into his arms and stood.

"It's fine," Zhou Mi laughed nervously; Zhou Mi was scared of dog-like Pokemon.

The stranger looked at Chikorita then, and KyuHyun saw the way his lips quivered like he was trying not to laugh. "Guess you're entering the Contests in a couple days?"

"Yes," Zhou Mi brightened. "It's my first time, I've never done this before."

"Oh? Can I suggest something?" the other man asked. When Zhou Mi nodded, he placed Poochyena down on a nearby stool and told her 'stay' before turning back to Chikorita. "I wouldn't use that much stuff on her...try to stick with approximately five different things, don't go more than seven unless you're really going for the cluttered look. She's a gorgeous Pokemon on her own, you don't really need much more to make her shine."

Chikorita puffed up happily at the compliments. Zhou Mi grinned sheepishly. "Yeah, you're right...I just got so nervous I didn't know what to do."

"Try picking a theme, and find things that work with her. It's easy for a Pokemon to wear something, but you want something she'll look good in where no one else will," the other man chuckled.

"Thanks," Zhou Mi's smile was about to crack his face in two. "I guess I'll see you in the Contests too?"

"Maybe," the other trainer picked up Poochyena again. "Good luck."

"Thank you!" Zhou Mi called as he left. Then he turned around to KyuHyun again, eyes bright. "Okay, I know what I'm gonna do!"

"What's that?" KyuHyun asked, amused.

"I don't need this, or this, or this," Zhou Mi pulled various items away from KyuHyun, placing them out of the way to be put back on shelves after. Then he turned and did the same to Chikorita, leaving only a few items left. The accessories were all natural wood, all metal and plastic accessories removed.

It took another half hour to complete Chikorita's outfit. KyuHyun had to keep Zhou Mi on track several times, stopping him from using too many accessories, but by the time they were done, Chikorita looked like a queen.

Zhou Mi attacked KyuHyun with a flying hug. "Thank you for helping Kui Xian, thank you thank you thank you!"

Catching himself from falling over, KyuHyun patted Zhou Mi's back. "It's nothing."

"Okay, let's pay for all this," Zhou Mi beamed. "Can you help me with the routine, picking out moves for her?"

"Sure," KyuHyun chuckled. He'd be more help with that than color coordination. His reward for his answer was a deep kiss, Zhou Mi's arms around his waist and pulling the younger man flush against him.

"Chika!"

Zhou Mi pulled back after the long kiss to look at his Pokemon, who was scratching his leg lightly. "Yes, you look like a princess," he cooed, scooping her up into his arms. "Let's go win some contests!"
