"Ah it's starting to rain!"
"Hurry hurry, under here!"
The trio of girls crowded under the canopy of what had to be the largest tree in the forest. No sooner did they reach safety than the sky opened up and it started to pour. Sunny pursed her lips, looking up at the dripping leaves above. "Looks like we're stuck."
A large drop of water splashed down TaeYeon's shirt and she shrieked in surprise, making both Sunny and SeoHyun cover their ears.
"Unnie!"
"I'm sorry," TaeYeon covered her mouth. "Well, let's try and get more comfortable, we can tough this out." She crouched and opened up her backpack, wrestling out a large blanket that she spread out on the ground for them to sit. "Come on girls, we've done camping before."
"With a tent," SeoHyun shook her head, helping TaeYeon spread out the blanket.
It took a few minutes for them to get set up, mixed with a lot of squealing whenever someone got dripped on. Finally they were all curled up on the blanket together, Sunny's Teddiursa in her lap as they watched the surrounding forest. TaeYeon's Cyndaquil curled up in front of them, the flames on her back keeping the cold away.
"That looks warm...can I join you?"
The sudden voice from above them drew surprised shrieks from all three girls. There was something in the tree!
"Teddiursa, cross chop!" Sunny yelled, and the Pokemon in her lap leapt up into the tree with a battle cry.
"Ack!" A young man fell from the tree a few feet away into the mud, nearly landing on his face. "Wait, call it off! Call it off, I didn't do anything!" Teddiursa came after him again, the man covering his head.
"Yaaanm!" A small Pokemon dropped out of the tree next to the stranger, blocking Teddiursa's attack. It was a Yanma, the dragonfly-like Pokemon hovering protectively between Teddiursa and the young man.
"Teddiursa, fall back," Sunny called, standing. She put herself between her friends and the stranger, hands on her hips. "All right, who are you?"
"No one really, I was taking notes up in the tree when it started to rain," the stranger groaned, sitting up. He tried to wipe away the mud smeared across his face. "My name's YeSung. I'm a bug catcher."
The description seemed to match, the stranger wearing a straw hat with a bug net fallen beside him. Sunny eyed him for a moment before deciding he wasn't a threat, and then smiling sweetly.
"You must be frozen, here, there's enough room for all four of us." She stepped out to help him to his feet.
"Unnie," SeoHyun whispered, eyes wide.
"Do either of you have something we can clean him off with?" Sunny asked, bringing YeSung to the blanket. Yanma and Teddiursa continued to watch each other before Sunny called her Pokemon back. Yanma hovered nearby, unwilling to land on the muddy ground.
TaeYeon fished a towel out of her backpack, and passed it over. YeSung accepted it with a sheepish smile and thanks, wiping the mud off his face, arm and clothes as best as he could.
"So what were you taking notes for?" Sunny asked, settling back down on the blanket and pulling Teddiursa into her lap.
"Trying to figure out what bug Pokemon I haven't caught yet," YeSung replied, looking around then back up at the tree. "...My notepad's stuck up there. Yanma?"
"Yanm!" The dragonfly Pokemon flitted up into the tree, returning a moment later with the notebook. Taking it with a grin, YeSung showed them.
"That's a lot of Pokemon," TaeYeon said, impressed by the number of names ticked off.
"Yeah, but still got a lot to go," YeSung nodded, placing the notepad down. "What are you three doing out here? This part of the forest doesn't see much foot traffic, that's why I always find the best Pokemon."
"We're looking for Celebi's Shrine," Sunny said cheerily, and YeSung gave them a strange look.
"Celebi's Shrine?"
"Yeah," TaeYeon nodded, smiling widely. "Rumors have been going around for years that there's a shrine somewhere in this forest, in the deepest part untouched by humans. We want to find it."
"Well, I've been around these woods my whole life and haven't seen anything like that," YeSung shook his head. "I go most places others don't too."
"That doesn't mean it's not here," TaeYeon said, leaning back on her hands. "Think about it, finding that place would be almost like finding Celebi too, right? It would be as close as any of us could get to a legendary Pokemon in our lives. We just have to wait for the rain to stop."
"Rain comes and goes here, it'll be over soon," YeSung shrugged. "All the same, I don't really want to be drenched, so can I stay here with you until it's over?"
"I don't see why not," TaeYeon said, SeoHyun nodding slowly. "We did kind of invade your tree first."
"There's time for a few games then," Sunny exclaimed cheerfully, fishing a deck of cards out of her bag. "Even better now that there's four of us!"
"I suck at cards," YeSung said morosely, watching unhappily as the deck was shuffled.
"Good, we'll team you up with SeoHyunnie then, it'll level off the playing field," Sunny laughed, SeoHyun protesting.
The game turned out to be a lot of fun, and it distracted them from the less than ideal conditions. Especially when they discovered YeSung was using Yanma to spy on their hands.
