My defenses were perfect, D thought, sitting on a park bench. With his cool demeanor and haughty smile he had withstood many attempts to breach the armor that guarded his untouchable heart.
They had been perfect… until a certain arrogant, pig-headed human came knocking on his door. Instead of flattery and extravagant promises, he offered antagonism, stubbornness… and of course, chocolate.
Armor carefully maintained over the years had begun to crumble.
Now as Leon walked toward him holding Chris’ hand, his warm smile of greeting was returned two-fold. Unaccustomed warmth blossomed in his heart.
And at last he was free.
