I'm so confused

I'm gonna say it, I just don't understand S4 of Angel. As much as I try to wrap my mind around it, and as much as I like some aspects of the season, it just makes no sense to me, especially not when you take the first three seasons into account, mainly the third. Am I the only one who's so confused? And it's not just about one little thing either, ( Read more... )

Hehe. I love the knuckle cracking. ;)

See, that's what I figured most of my confusion came from: everyone trying to deal with CC's pregnancy. Meh.

Hmm, I didn't think about it that way. It makes sense that it would all have to be Cordy's choice and therefore Skip had to give her a choice. Interesting. I shall have to munch on this idea for a while.

IKR? Ewww! It was totally Oedipus-like and gross and all things bad. lol

Does being a higher being generally mean that you'd be above the battle between good and evil? Doesn't being a higher being just mean that you're fighting in another real, in a different way, against evil? I don't know.

I haven't joined any Buffy boards. I've only joined Stranger Things, and I haven't really looked that much into the past threads. But I was thinking about it. Trying to find some place where someone already answered some of this weirdness.

Everyone has their own opinion on all these things because they were never answered by the writers. But I do think you need to take the real life situations into account to decipher what happened ( ... )

Perfect summary, D. I agree with all of it.

The only thing is that I thought that Cordy was going to be Angelus-y. It was going to be a rewrite of Becoming except with the roles reversed.

At least, that is what I always heard. I explained it more in my comment below.

Can I just say WOW? Those two posts were so brilliant. You pretty much touched on everything I thought, but wasn't exactly sure about in a brilliantly written way.

I will certainly not blame CC for what the writers did in S4. All that crap they threw at her, was their own doing. That is one thing I'm not sure I'll ever understand or forgive. But, no worries on that end. I don't blame CC at all. Oh and the fact that they didn't tell her what was happening as it was going on actually helps explain why her character seemed to go back and forth for me.

I'll definitely be going back and referencing these two comments and try to interpret everything that happened in my own way. It's just so confusing and frustrating.

Thank you for this though! It's absolutely brilliant!

Wow, Damnskippy explained it so much better than I would have, so I have nothing to add except WORD. Also, it was a hot damned mess and unexplainable. The writers were literally making it up as they went, trying to treat it as some great arc that had been planned and at the same time blaming "that pregnant actress" for their failure.

I still can't believe they would blame CC for all that THEY wrote! It's completely despicable, as is the way they treated her.

Damnskippy explained it all perfectly. The only thing I will add is that the original story was that Cordelia would come back from the Higher Realms as evil ala Angelus in S2. She would be the soulless monster that Angelus was and Angel would step into the Buffy role and kill Cordy in order to save the world. I bet they would have sent Cordy to Hell as well, just like a Becoming redux.

I think that is why they had Angel grab the sword when he was going to kill Cordy as well. Because they honestly could not think of anything better than rehashing the B/Aus storyline.

I still don't buy the original story of an evil Cordy. It's like Damnskippy said, she would have to be murdering for good in order for me to buy it. Cordy may have been catty but she was never evil, so that transformation would've been quite interesting to watch. Plus, I just can't believe that the Higher Realms would make her evil and soulless. I mean, the power she was entrusted with as a demon and the fact that she didn't let it go to her head, kind of show that she wasn't this power-hungry person.

I don't know. I'll have to think on it. *sigh*

This is the first I've ever heard of this theory. I mean I've never heard any of the writers say she would return soulless a la Angelus. Only that she would be evil and it would be Cordy and not some possessed Cordy. And I never heard Angel would kill her. Only that there would be a big battle between them which, I figured, would end with Angel getting her back a la how Xander got Willow back. Never have I heard that Cordy would die at the end of S4. That's extremely new and shocking to me.

Can you tell me where this comes from? Did you hear it straight from ME?

Lemme see if I can dig up the link. If I remember right, someone linked to it on IMDB about four or five years ago on the Angel section of the board. It was an interview with one of the writers because he had a new show and they asked him about it.

ETA: Or not. It only goes back to Feb 2010. I'm going to try Google. If worse comes to worse...I will message one of the older Angel IMDBers that I know commented on it.
