I'm sorry that accessibility and acceptance are so hard to come by :(

It's so frustrating because a lot of it doesn't seem like a big deal, like it wouldn't take much to make it accessible and I even looked into portable ramps (they won't fit in my car and are too heavy to carry) but businesses should at least consider spending 200 to 400 measly bucks on a small ramp. But nooo, everyone's all like 'but we don't get disabled people here'. And you know, I was brought up with 'oh we have the ADA' and I took it at face value. Everyone's equal. There's access everywhere. What should have been said is the ADA is a piece of paper.

/end rant, I'm sorry I'm a little frustrated at the moment in this regard.

Thanks. <3

I was reading an article about inaccessible buses and this one commenter was all like 'yes the buses are inaccessible but we never get disabled people on them so why make them accessible'? For serious.

2 reasons. People just don’t know/pay attention/care about making stuff accessible or what makes stuff accessible. Secondly, people are scared. They view a wheelchair as like the ultimate symbol of disability and they are afraid of anything that goes along with it because it reminds them of how close they could be to something they fear. They assume that everyone else is similarly afraid and that everyone else also would much rather stick their head in the sand about it rather than directly addressing it and having what is actually a better life.

That’s my thoughts on those people anyway. I clearly am not one of those people.

Perhaps I should have said 'logical' reasons. ;)

I'm glad you're not one of those people.

Logical reasons? the logical reason is that we are not Vulcans. :)

I'm glad I'm not as well. Which reminds me I need to call and get some bids on installing a ramp at my house when I get home from NY.
