Awakening (六)

Jun was shaking.
“Damn.”
The dream left a bitter taste in his mouth. He looked down and patted a hand on his t-shirt clad chest, half expecting to see a sword sticking out of it. Suddenly Jun froze as he remembered.
“Sato-, no, Ohno.”
Jun turned, reaching for his cell phone on his nightstand and flipped it open. He stopped again before he hit the call button as another thought hit.
The dream had been only just that. A dream. There was no way Ohno would be awake for the same reason. And more importantly, Jun had no reason to call Leader at this hour of the night.
It’s not like we’re more than friends. Certainly not in an intimate relationship... Arashi is our only connection.
The thought caused his heart to tighten. Jun couldn’t remember the last time he’d looked at Ohno and hadn’t wished they had the same kind of relationship as that dream.
It had started from thinking, “I can’t believe he just ate that,” whenever Leader volunteered to try something hazardous to “That was a pretty cute face,” when he was half asleep to “Nino should get his damn hands off of Ohno’s (insert body part).” Jealousy had come as a bit of a surprise because he didn’t dislike Nino at all, rather respected him as a fellow actor and trusted him as a friend. As a result, Jun had started wondering if these feelings were actually of a brotherly sort or not.
So, he really sat down to think through it. All the women he’d been around either made him feel annoyed, on edge, or at least kept him amused. But he never really felt affection, and certainly not lust. No matter the length of time he’d known them, the private setting, or the kissing scene in a drama.
They’re always trying to get too close too fast, coworker or not.
Yes, he did enjoy the rush he got from the screams every time he entered a crowded studio or preformed at a concert. But in his opinion, he sensed what they loved was the image he projected, and of course, the money that came with it.
Jun doubted most people could understand his real self. He knew it was impossible that a stranger would be able to know when to back off if he was annoyed, or withstand his fury when he was truly pissed off, or put up with one of his lengthy lectures when he was being a perfectionist.
The same could even be said for Jun’s family. His father didn’t approve of the idol’s career choice, his mother pretended she was happy for him while living in her own world, and he’d lost touch with his sister when they both moved out of their parent’s house, living their separate lives. Whenever he took the time to talk to his parents, Jun usually ended up more stressed than when he started.
Before he realized it, the only people he enjoyed to be around or who could stand to be around Jun for extended periods of time, no matter the DoS’s mood, were his group members, Arashi. As for just who had caught his attention, the anger targeted at Nino when the gamer touched Leader, told Matsujun all he needed to know. Truth be told, Ohno fascinated him. He could never guess what was on the older man’s mind. His relaxed pace even calmed Jun when he was feeling strained. Plus, Leader didn’t really pay attention to half his lectures, so Ohno couldn’t be bothered to get annoyed.
Through the years of close quarters during concerts, variety program filming, and long rehearsals, Jun had shown every part of himself to Ohno and his crush had accepted everything. His deep affection turned into love somewhere along the way, and with the love came the long lost lust. Enough that Matsumoto couldn’t share a hotel room with Ohno alone anymore. The other times when it was particularly bad were when Leader was close enough to touch, but he didn’t risk it, then to watch Nino, Aiba, and Sho easily hold hands... He’d gotten very good at restraining the urge to strangle.
And perhaps the most important reason to control himself, was that he didn’t want to destroy the comfortable balance the five had achieved. Or at least, the thought of his crush feeling uncomfortable around Jun if his confession didn’t go over well had managed to hold him back so far.
However, tonight was the breaking point. The feeling of loss was still vivid enough to make him dizzy.
I could lose him before I’ve even tried. I need to try and tell him how I feel.
