My mom is crazy good at crochet and knitting, so when I was wee, I would sit at her feet and watch her. At some point, I decided to pick the skill up, and she was surprised that I had learned to crochet in a sort of backwards way - I did it the way I saw it happen - from the other side of the material.
So now I still do it backwards, and it's kind of confusing to anyone who knows how to do it right, but it gets the job done.
Well, this is a super old post, but I've found some online videos that I think will help me and I have no experience. I haven't tried them yet, but watching them, I went, "okay, I get it." I can give more feedback when I've actually tried to crochet if you want. And links.

medeaspes tried to teach me, but watching her just do it was more helpful.
I just have to keep reminding myself that I sucked at knitting not too long ago as well!
