Every once in a while, I start writing something and get disgusted with the direction it turns, and just throw it away -- like in the movies, when the authors tear the paper out of the old mechanical typewriters in a rage. I think I'd like to write on a typewriter, for the auditory stimuli. If it's electronic, it's so much less dramatic; just ( Read more... )

why don't you just save them in a file on your computer you call "fuck ups" or something?

Because at the time I don't want to ever see it again. It's one of those things like trying to check to see if something's hot with your hands, and when it is, you wonder why did you do that? It's a question of perspective, really.

hahah, i know what you mean. when you delete them, do they sit in the recycle bin on your computer, or are you so inspired to get rid of them that you empty the recycle bin?

I just don't save them. I never actively delete anything.

Oh man, I've pitched entire journals before in a fit of disgust, it makes me crazy to think about it now. In my case, the computer saves me from that kind of madness, it's a lot less dramatic to just click delete then to violently shred up a pile of paper.

It is less dramatic. But then again, I do a windmill stroke and click the button very hard while yelling, "NOOOOO!" a la Kirk's "Khan!!!" from Star Trek II, so I make up for it.
