I never had a problem with A-Rod when he was here. I'll still defend him over a lot of stuff he did in pinstripes, even now.

That having been said, it's nice to see that Hank shares my attitude towards him now. He ditched us; FUCK THAT GUY.

This is basically how I feel. There is nothing the Yankees could have done to keep him here. They were going to offer the guy a record breaking deal. He simply doesn't want to play in New York. Does it suck? Sure it does. But there is nothing you, me, or anyone else can do about that. Maybe it was because of the treatment he received here, maybe it was because he is trying to maximize his profits. Who knows? One thing you can do is look at the bright side of this thing:

- The Yankees get two draft picks next year since A-Rod is gone. They got two draft picks for letting Tom Gordon (also a Type A FA) walk and turned those picks into Joba Chamberlain and Ian Kennedy.

- The Yankees now have a lot of free cash. They were paying A-Rod $16M a year with Texas kicking in the rest of it. Look further ahead to the offseason of 2008 where Giambi, Mussina, Farnsworth, and possibly Pettitte also come off the books. This is a ton of money with some quality arms and a few quality position players eligible for free agency.
