I'm fine with Mattingly and Dave Eiland. I think Larry Bowa would be a good bench coach for Donnie, but he's also an excellent 3rd base coach. So it depends on who else is available for either position. I mean I am sure Pena could handle 3rd and they could find a 1st base coach.

Not sure how Eiland will do with the vets but I think he'll be good for the young guys.

Just curious, why don't you like the idea of Mazzone?

Because he makes a lot of money and isn't worth it. He's had two legitimate reclaimation projects (Jaret Wright and Mike Remlinger) while everyone else has had mixed results.

You don't think he had anything to do with Bedard or Guthrie?

Bedard has always been pegged as a front end starter. Guthrie fell apart after the second half. So no.

Mazzone did squat with Daniel Cabrera (although he's a total headcase). Since Eiland already has a good rapport with 3/5 of next year's rotation I say let him do it.

I'm very much on board with Eiland. Considering what a great relationship he has with our young trifecta, I think it would be a great move. I also really hope both Bowa and Pena stay on in some capacity, however the whole manager thing pans out.

And the official said the organization is in agreement with Ca$hmoney's public stance that if Rodriguez opts out, the Yankees will not bid against other teams to retain him. The Yankees feel very few teams, if any, can meet or exceed what the Yankees can pay A-Rod.

This makes me feel a little better. It's basically the equivalent of saying, "We are going to make a huge, gigantic, "blank check" offer to him. If he declines, then there is no way he'd be coming back anyway, so bidding is pointless."
